VL- 624, 2300 hours May 17, 2758. Week of loosing contact with the United Colonial Republic
The planet VL-624 laid in orbit around Star H 56. The system hadn't had a proper name yet and for all intents and purposes was currently under the name Alpha 01. The original starship survey convoy only found two warp points. The one leading from the system of Hancock where the planet Stataca was. The other warp point was to another destination and would not be surveyed until later on when the office of colonization authorized it.
Alpha 01 had a total of six planets, four of them were gas giants full of minerals. The other two planets, one was far too close to the local star to be habitual and the other was just right. It had oxygen and was almost an eden paradise. After the survey team reported that there was a planet here suited for life, the Office of Colonization sent a small number of colonists to start the colonization process. The colonists laded on October 17, 3357. The world was extremely pleasant, the natural wild life however was not that welcoming when two of the colonists got drunk one day and tried to tame a "titan" a raptor like creature that preyed upon herds of turtle like creatures.
The colony was quite small, there were only 500 (498 since the two other colonists had died) people total. Engineers, environmental scientists, maintenance workers, medical staff, service operators, naval crew members, government Representatives and the very, very small number of S.S. guards for security.
The site for colonization was that of a valley near a river to the south, to the north were mountains. The east and west were covered in forests. The site was chosen for the river, this was because a small dam had been erected, very small it was just to power the colonial buildings. Those power lines then met the colony itself.
The outer perimeter of the colony was surrounded by a electric fence to keep out wildlife which might attack the buildings. There was only one gate where these people could leave or exit. This was in case a gate malfunctioned and let inside wildlife which would kill everyone. the S.S. guards erected automatic turrets on the gate itself, a total of 30. The turrets had two functions to do. The first was each turret had a perimeter it was responsible for, if a meat eating predator got close it would make a high pitch whine which usually scared off the meat eating wild life, however if one of them got too close they would be killed instantly by 50. caliber bullets.
Plant eating animals however were of no concern for the turrets and the scientists had studied them very closely. Inside the fence there was a road that outlined a cross and each of the squares had a name. Alpha 1 on the upper left corner was the administration building, this is where the administrators would gather and decide the day's activities , there was also the landing pad for the shuttles to bring down supplies and people.
On Alpha 2 south of it, was where the scientific buildings , labs, and a small health care facility were located. This is also where a emergency shelter was in case of a disaster that could house everyone and securely hold them for at least one year until the republic could send someone to rescue them. It also housed the automated chemical and water treatment plant
On Alpha 3 to the east of those buildings were the entertainment and equipment facilities. They housed all the trucks, drills, and weapons any kind of equipment one could need. other buildings included a Jewish temple, a Christan church, a Islamic mosque and another building for other religions which were divided inside via rooms. There was also one bar and a night club. People had to be entertained after all.
And finally, Alpha 4 north of Alpha 3 was where the living quarters were which was divided into 5 buildings and they held 100 people each. The Colony was named Saigon due to the head administrator Pham Taun who was Vietnamese... of southern Vietnamese origin..it was just concidense that his name was that of a north vietnamese person.
VL-624's last delivery by the exploration starship: Roosevelt had delivered her supplies 5 weeks ago and she was 2 days over due...which was unheard of. Captain Booth made sure that she always was on time. "Sweet Allah Tim, can you please stop eating." Joshuah said as he turned his eyes away from the radar screen. The radar tower at this time of the day 2300 only had two people on duty. Joshuah was in charge of air traffic control during his shift....and Tim was his manager. "Oh come on Josh don't tell me that you Islamic fellas don't like Boston cream donuts." Tim said smiling. Tim was sitting near the door way at his desk which had a console that surrounded him telling him the status of the air field, it's power, what was going on outside etc. It also had cameras that could go to visible, infrared and night visions. Tim had a large bushy mustache and was obese. This was due to the fact that he had a sweet tooth.
"No, we don't mind sweets but I'm trying to concentrate on my job and I can't concentrate with you always stuffing your face." he said. Tim smiled. Josh and him always fought, but not real fighting, they did it because they were bored. And in face both of them were the best of friends. "And besides, isn't Captain Booth supposed to of sent those shuttles by now? It seems odd. I mean maybe her warp point engine malfunctioned when she made transition." he said. "Come now, the last time that happened was in the early 2600's and we haven't had an accident sense. No If something is wrong it's her superiors saying that she needed to go to some other system to supply it." he said. "Yeah well you owe me 5000 credits if she arrives tonight."
Tim sighed. "Alright fine you win." Suddenly a beeping sound went off in the control room. Joshuah went to his radar screen and saw three white dots heading towards the colony....and they were going quite fast. "Looks like I do win. Beta niner this is Saigon Colony your coming in too fast make your heading to niner-delta echo over." he said into his Mic...he waited for a response. He heard something on his head set but he couldn't make out what it was it sounded like a screech. "Something must be wrong boss...the pilot has some sort of mic malfunction." he said. Tim checked his sensors via the cameras to see if something was wrong with the shuttle itself.
When he went to night vision he saw a shuttle...but it was not a human shuttle...it was something else. It was a long shuttle with small windows in the front and it looked more he couldn't describe it but he could of sworn it looked like some kind of contraception from the 21st century of a airplane. Well not an airplane, it didn't matter what it looked like it was not human. And they sped right past the colony at super sonic speed shaking the windows of the building. A turret fired at the third shuttle as it past the colony. It hit the shuttle on an engine, and the shuttle crashed in the forest at least 20 miles away. It's two companions went off without it going somewhere else. "Josh wake up and tell Pham Tuan what just happened. This is big!"
