Admin Post Alpha-001 System, VL-624 January 10, 2759, 0500 Shipboard time UCS Dauntless Fury Orbiting VL-624
The alarm sounded throughout the troopship Dauntless Fury. No doubt that today was the day that everyone had been waiting for. The lieutenants’ of the various platoons had been up before then getting last minute details from Captain Jones. Two days previously, the Dauntless Fury and Jacques Hébert had both sent tight beam transmissions down to the colony and received only static. The two starships had been unable to locate the single satellite orbitingVL-624. They’d only been inside orbit for the past hour and a half above the planet. Both starships would be trying to find the satellite. If found it might hold some information as to why the colony had stopped short of communicating.
As members of the platoon were inside the armory, Staff Sergeant Silva as always bellowed in his voice “Get yourselves packed and ready people. I want you to bring extra rations in case we need em because there’s no way of knowing how long we will be down on the planet.” The members of the platoon had been waiting for a long time for this particular operation and many wanted it to soon be over with. Lieutenant Hobbar appeared in the door way and whistled over towards Silva. Silva went towards him and both of them spoke in low tones. Silva’s face turned pale. It quickly flushed back as he breathed in a deep sigh. Members of the platoon had to gather their weapons and gear from the armoury. It was a good thing that First Platoon had arrived when they did, behind them there was the rest of the company waiting to grab their armor and weapons.
In the drop bay, The Sparrows were already warmed up and ready. Pilots had opened the ramps of their dropships and the platoons were rushing into the compartments as their lieutenants watched with ease. The Sparrow in which First Platoon had chosen had a unique passenger. Gerry Black, the Human Corporation Representative. He had been up when the pilots were turning on the dropships. He’d already angered Thomson by stating how out of date the Sparrow was when compared to the dropship used by Special Security forces. Even though the man didn’t know that much about the specs he had glanced through some material a Special Security pilot had given him about the dropship that the Special Security forces used. Black sat next to Lamond.
The hanger bay doors to the rest of the ship suddenly closed and the ramps of each Sparrow closed up as well. The drop bays suddenly opened up. “Eagle One, this is Tiger. Eagle One you are clear to depart.” The flight operations controller said. “I say again you are clear to depart.” The dropship then lowered into the bay and Thomson went over the controls. In the compartment below, Hobbar said on the all comms frequency “Platoon listen up. We’ve at Oh three hundred hours ship board time both starships entered orbit. Since then they’ve tried to establish contact with New Saigon. There has been no response and there is no signal to indicate their communication is working. Infared scans of the colony show that all power is currently out. What’s even worse is they haven’t found the satellite orbiting the planet. It might have some information as to what’s happened to the in New Saigon. Our mission is to secure this building.” He then presented them a map of the colony. He indicated the living quarters. “We’re to secure the living quarters. Then Captain Jones will update our objectives. While we’re investigating the colony, Special Security will be investigating the dam that supplies power. They will reestablish power to the colony. Be prepared for anything we don’t know what’s going on down there.”
The atmosphere for the landing zone was anything but welcoming. The colony was currently going through the summer season of the planet. There was a large storm over the landing zone. It was not the size of a monsoon but it was a great downpour.

When the alarm sounded, Maisie knew that it was time to go. She wasn’t unfamiliar with military matters and she certainly wasn’t unwilling to do her job. But she was still new to the crew and new to being away from home so naturally she was a bit nervous. Maisie found a fairly quiet corner to get changed from her sleepwear and into her combat armour. She was a bit shy to be living in mixed rooms and she certainly wasn’t happy about having to strip down to her underwear in front of men every time she had to get changed. But she got her gear on and held her helmet in her free hand while she walked towards the hangar. Her carbine rifle was hanging by her waist and with her right hand she made the final checks on the radio to make sure that the frequencies were open and that it was fully charged and had a decent reception.
Once she reached the dropship she found a seat and here she placed her helmet in her lap and began to tie up her hair. This was the only thing that she hadn’t yet done. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to go to war with her hair hanging loosely like she kept it when sleeping but it didn’t take long to set up so that it could fit within the helmet. While doing that she listened to the briefing and took note of the objective. She didn’t say anything but made a final equipment check. She was certain that someone would tell her who to follow when they reached the ground and that she wouldn’t be part of the most forward people anyway.

The hanger bay’s sirens blared loudly as personnel exited the vicinity. The doors of the entire bay leading to the rest of the starship closed shut. Once everyone was clear of the area only then did the launch bay doors begin to open. Slowly the dropships were lowered down and pilots were performing last minute checks on their ship. As the dropships were lowered down the pilots were able to see on their radar that the Special Security Dropships were heading down towards the planet. The pilots listened to air traffic control. “Eagle One, you are cleared for departure. I say again Eagle One, you are cleared for departure.” Eagle One’s engines already on then kicked into burn after the magnetic arm released the dropship.
Down in below the compartment, the Energy Department Representative of Human Corporation was already wearing out his welcome. He was already making everyone upset by his constant talk about how the Sparrow wasn’t that good of a dropship when compared to a Special Security dropship. Hobbar who’d already given out the orders for the mission was surprised when on the private communication line “Lieutenant, why is the Human Corporation guy here? Did Captain Jones tell you he’d be with us on our dropship?” he asked. Hobbar then replied. “No I wasn’t told that he’d be on our own dropship. Captain Jones should of told us I don’t know who the hell forgot to tell us. After all he is a VIP and it would have been nice to know. But it dosen’t matter he’s still a civilian and he’s in our care. As to what will happen when we land, he dosen’t get off until we figure out what is going on in the colony. I don’t want anything to happen to the man.” He said to Silva on the private line. “Yeah.” Was all the Staff Sergeant had to say.
Lieutenant Hobbar then switched over to private lines to both of the radio operators. “Listen up RTO’s. In the briefing, Command forgot to issue specific call signs. My call sign is Alpha One, Staff Sergeant Silva is Alpha Two. The good Sergeant Amberson is Arc Angel. The platoon is Kilo One while Captain Jones is Kilo Actual. Any other higher up command call signs will be designated by Captain Jones. Our dropship’s call sign is Eagle One. Any Questions?”

Admin Post Alpha-001 System, VL-624, New Saigon Colony January 10, 2759, 0658 Local Time Light wind north north west, heavy rainfall. Eagle One, enroute to landing zone.
The dark green grass had a slight breeze going through it. The field surrounding the colony was eerily quiet. The only sounds that were made of the storm over the colony. Rain was pouring into the field, and this caused a few puddles to form in the road leading out of the colony gate. Inside the colony itself, the buildings which would have had people in them getting ready for the day were nowhere to be found. No children were running in the streets in the colony, no scientific teams were traveling outside the walls. Water poured into had once been the control tower as it no longer existed, the entire tower was a large pile of twisted metal. The landing pad was still usable though with the pad clear of any debris. However directly next to the landing pad over the wall, the wreckage of a civilian landing ship completely destroyed. A portion of the wall was down next to the wreckage of the ship. .
The streets of the colony were empty and what was on them were what remained of the colonists, only their remains and clothing. The emergency shelter was still locked up tight, and anyone still inside was safe from what had occurred. If there was anyone in the emergency shelter. All around the colony there were signs of a battle between the colonists and…..something. Black marks were over the walls of buildings indicating some sort of fire. The rest of the buildings in the colony were still standing but heavily damaged.
No one had ever expected to see the Sparrows coming in out of the clouds, if anyone had seen them they would of immediately been cheering and waving for help, hoping that they would finally be seen! The Sparrow Pilots as they got closer to the Colony were shocked and in awe. They could not register what they were seeing in their eyes they knew what they saw. But it was unfathomable in their minds.
The Sparrow carrying First Platoon settled down in the field, near the road outside of the colony. “Go go go!” Hobbar yelled as the platoon filed out. The Human Corporation Representative began to get out but Hobbar put his hand on the man’s chest. “Until we get an all clear your staying here.” He said. Staff Sergeant Silva was already giving out orders “Kilo One, Line formation” he said as the platoon began to move out with weapons at the ready.

Sitting in a dropship heading for an actual combat mission was far from exciting. Sure Maisie had seen combat before but that had been within the relative safety of the walls of her home base. But now she was heading straight into combat and danger. As Maisie waited for the dropship to touch down she quickly looked over her equipment, mainly her radio, to make sure that she was ready for anything once the ship landed. She removed the magazine of her carbine rifle and gave it a glance to see if it was full and then slipped it back into the weapon and pulled back the charging handle to let a bullet enter the chamber and then released the mechanism. She checked out of habit that the safety was still engaged on the weapon and then she took a few deep breaths and closed her eyes to collect her thoughts.
The dropship touched down and the order was given to move out. Maisie got up and followed the person in front of her out of the dropship. She stepped onto solid ground and took a look around the place. This colony was far from her home. Which might have been a good thing as her home was frozen solid and she might be the only one in the platoon who would thrive in such an environment. However this place certainly didn’t seem to be in pristine condition and Maisie began to wonder what might have happened. She held her weapon ready and awaited orders. She didn’t expect fighting to be her top priority but rather to keep communication lines open.

Reed grit his teeth as the dropship landed onto the field. A loud bang and shaking of the landing confirmed that they were now on the surface of the planet. He opened his eyes and looked around him. The lights in the compartment went from yellow to red. Standing up he took in a deep breath and exhaled, not having much information for this mission was troubling him. As the ramp came down, he saw it was heavily raining and he moved down the ramp. Almost as soon as he set foot on the grass did the Staff Sergeant shot out orders of what formation to take. He stood with his rifle at the ready. His HUD’s map was updated and showed the position of where the platoon was. It was labeled as Kilo Two and had the icon of a large triangle, there was an arrow both on the map and created in front of him through his HUD where they’d be going.
They would be going through the hole in the wall and pass through the landing pads and onto the living quarters. As they moved out in the field slowly he saw the remains of an shuttle, twisted beyond recognition. There was no way anyone had survived that but why was it here in the first place? Unless he was certain ARM was behind the attack on this colony. How could they harm scientists who were doing surveys of the planet? Why was this place even attacked, it only had a few hundred people at best. Reed had his rifle raised and kept it raised as the platoon slowly made their way towards the hole in the wall.

Post by Michael Hobbar on Apr 24, 2015 13:29:31 GMT -5
As the platoon moved forward to the wall of the colony, Hobbar stayed vigilant watching for any sign of movement in front of him. Slowly they made their way towards the opening of the wall, passing the downed craft. As the platoon passed the craft they realized that it would not of been worth it to try and pry it open because the only piece still intact was the cockpit. The pilot’s remains were not inside the craft. Michael made a motion with his fist for the platoon to get ready to enter the colony. It was still pouring and it would be for quite some time. He then nodded at Zhour who was next to him and went inside. Michael followed with his weapon drawn.
The landing pad was supposed to of had two craft, but all that remained was the asphalt. In front of the platoon as they stepped into the colony was that of horror. The landing pad had remains of clothing all about and there were two blackened corpses on the ground. Around the landing pad itself were the remains of people, blackened charred bodies with some bone beginning to appear. The air traffic control tower was a twisted pile of metal and could not be used for a vantage point. He opened up a private channel “Arc Angel the tower’s a no go for you. Recommend you find another spot to cover us as we go inside the living quarters. There’s gotta be ladders along the wall I’m sure you can find yourself a good vantage point.” He said and then switched it into the platoon’s frequency “We’re going to be searching the living quarters….and try to find out what the hell happened to the colonists. To make this go faster I’ll be splitting us up. Silva, Heart, Reed , Lamond your responsible for the first living quarters., Forrester Zhour, Huxley and I will search the second living quarters. Remember these people have been out of contact with us for a good while so don’t scare em. We’ll begin entering them once Arc Angel is in position.”
The platoon for the moment stood just on the very edge of the landing pads and looked at what had happened at the colony. Something major did occur and it looked like it had been a good while ago. But no one was certain as to what transpired. The remains of charred bodies in the streets were a reminder whoever did this assaulted the colonists. But why would they attack this colony and a scientific colony at that? Even ARM which was still considered a threat even if the rouge general leading them had vanished without a trace. Hobbar felt like someone was lying to him and the platoon. Either Captain Jones was hiding something or the Human Corporation Representative was.

The sight of burned bodies made Wei want to vomit. Even though he was not walking up and looking over them he felt disgusted by it. Whoever the hell had done this and killed the innocent would be paying in time. While the platoon was told to wait to advance, Wei looked around the colony and noticed how in the street running next to the destroyed Air Tower were a few blackened corpses. Turning to his right he tried to see more of the buildings that were on his map. The three buildings to his right were the Special Security Building, the Special Security Barracks and the Administration Building. All three buildings were intact and from what Wei could see of the other buildings in the colony , were still standing.
Whomever had attacked the colony thought it was only important to take out the Air Tower and the people living here. Killing them had been the priority and not the total destruction of the site. ARM was most likely behind what had occurred here. After all why wouldn’t they not attack this outpost? It was very easy to come here to attack a soft target. But what was puzzling him were all the burned bodies it made no sense. Unless ARM had gotten some sort of advanced weaponry that he had not seen or heard of then it made sense. Bullets didn’t cause people to burn. He stood and had his weapon for the moment lowered not sure of what was going to happen.

Christopher was glad that he had his helmet on as he saw the corpse he was standing next to. No doubt the smell would make him want to hurl. He’d seen a few dead bodies in his life but this was gruesome. What on Earth had happened at this colony? It wasn’t supposed to be like this at all. He was expecting that the transmitter was malfunctioning, or that the colony had come down with a sickness. But this was awful! Seeing the bodies on the air pads made him want to throw up. He had never seen people burned before. “Those ARM bastards are going to pay.” He said to himself. Quickly he made the sign of the cross on himself as he looked at the other parts of the colony.
Quickly he looked at the map on his HUD and saw the rest of the company advancing on securing certain buildings. He then looked around him looking for any sign of movement but wasn’t able to find any. Looking at what remained of the Air Tower he wondered how anyone could of gotten out of it before being killed. Who had attacked this colony but more important how had they been able to attack this site with heavy weapons and even advanced weapons. People didn’t burn by being shot with a projectile. Unless someone had invented a plasma operated weapon or had used Incendiary ammunition it would be impossible. The air tower was still a wonder, he knew that ARM had some heavy weapons, but the only ships registered to pass through the system was a colonial transport….and that had gone missing as well. The more he thought about it, the more his brain hurt. It was best to leave that to Hobbar and the other officers who would find the soulless terrorists and kill them on site.
Christiopher nuged Forrester in the arm and said “I don’t like this.”

From the looks of things there would be more cleanup than rescue on this planet that the briefing had suggested. So far no life signs were visible other that the platoon itself and Maisie kept herself busy by going through the various radio frequencies in order to check for possible distress calls. Not that she had much hope of getting anything but at least doing that was better than her staring all all the corpses which would surely have done nothing but make her lose her breakfast. This was a very different type of mission than she had been used to back on her home world. She was still trying to get used to the climate change and even her time in jump training had really done much to make her feel fully at home in warmer weather. In fact she often found herself drinking more from her canteen than her squad mates did simply because her body felt the extra heat of what most people would describe as a perfectly climatised planet to be too much.
The Lieutenant was starting to give orders and Maisie listened attentively until he was done. His plan to split up into teams weren’t exactly a bad one but since he didn’t mention Maisie, she suspected that she simply had to watch their rear as they entered the buildings. Obviously the Lieutenant didn’t say anything but Maisie did wonder if the fact that she was still untested in the 32nd was why she was not being sent in with the teams. She didn’t get much time to consider it though because she soon after felt someone nudge her arm and just as she turned to face Private Reed he spoke up to her about how he didn’t like the situation. ‘There’s not much to like either,’ She answered as she looked around wondering if anyone was observing them and preparing an ambush. ‘Do you think whoever did this is still around?’ She then questioned out loud but not to anyone in particular. It was mostly just her mind that turned into actual words.

As Kilo Company began to enter the colony, First Platoon started to head towards their own objective. Zhour was on point as the sniper Amberson covered the platoon heading to the living quarters. As they made their way to the buildings, each of them got a sense that what they would find in the buildings were more bodies. The thought of seeing bodies made some of them feel uneasy. The only movement around them in the street were from the rest of the company securing their own objectives. When they arrived at the living quarters the first thing they noticed was that the main entrance of each living quarter had been opened. There were a total of five.
There were no bodies here…..yet. The living quarters were five stories high and looked similar to an apartment unit. Some of the windows were broken, while those not broken had their shutters sealed. “Ok ,each team stay in constant contact with me. I want each floor to be searched for anyone who is alive or might tell us what happened here. After we’ve searched the living quarters we’ll get new ones from the Captain.” He told them. The platoon then went their separate ways.

The opened door to him was a sign that something was wrong. Of course seeing the corpses in the street was an obvious sign, but to have a structure such as this have its door opened was a sign to him that something had happened that caused people to come out of their living areas. Entering the hallway he saw on his left down the corridor a sign that read cafeteria. While, right across from it was a sign that read exercise room. At the end of the hallway was a stairwell that went to the next level. The designer of the building must have had a sense of humor placing the workout center right across from the cafeteria. He was able to see through his night vision and saw no signs of bodies like the ones outside. At least not yet. He had his rifle raised not knowing what would be in either room.
The squad began to fan out as well as they could throughout the hallway. He was on the right side of the hallway and made his way to the exercise room. There was no door on either room, there were simply entrances to them. Aiming his rifle as he approached the room he looked for any other signs of anything odd in the hallway so far. Turning the corner he saw the rows of empty work out equipment. To the right was a small locker area with a small bench and on his left were workout machines. Further back were restrooms for people and a small reception area near the lockers. Burn marks and dried blood were on a few of the walls from what he could tell. Entering the room , he headed towards the lockers and looked for any other signs of disturbance. Aside from a towel thrown on one of the benches there was nothing.
He walked on over to the reception area where there was dried blood on the wall. Peering over the desk he saw what had once been a person, now it was only bones with some of their clothes still on. Another trooper he didn’t know whom was also searching the room with him before he turned around and saw them head into the restrooms. “Restroom clear, Staff Sergeant.” Reed said. “Roger. Lamond, Heart anything on your end?” he asked them on the comm.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Christopher had a strange feeling in his gut that this mission was about to become even worse. Outside there were what looked like to be bodies burnt to a crisp, and the living quarters looked to be no different. Staff Sergeant Silva went ahead of him to clear out the work out room, and Reed followed. His shotgun at the ready in case some crazy ARM terrorist came at them. The work out room didn’t have much to tell from what he could see. Through his night vision he saw there was very little blood if any. The work out equipment was not powered as was the rest of the building. The back up generators hadn’t even turned on, so whatever happened here had caused even the back ups to fail. From what he could remember about the colony each building had its own back up power supply in the maintenance levels. Walking into an entrance that were for restrooms he didn’t expect to find any survivors.
The bathrooms were for about only three people and that was it. It didn’t take long to check both of them. There were no signs of struggle or a firefight in either. “Restrooms are clear Staff Sergeant.” He said to Silva. He then proceeded to help clear out the cafeteria. Walking into the cafeteria , he saw meals half finished with tables that still had utinsiles placed on them. Vinigan and Heart were behind the food counter, clearing the kitchen. Walking between the rows of tables ,he saw little sign of a firefight in here. But it was clear that the colonists had left in a hurry. “This isn’t normal.” He said to himself.

Stephanie had finally found a spot to set up. "Arc Angel engaged" she wasn't really concerned with having not been able to find a position earlier, while it pissed her off; it happened. The woman made sure that she had line of sight that Hobbar had told her take. She had at this point fallen back to cover fire but Connor snapping her direction was not helpful. The woman really wished she could get rid of the annoying spotter. It was bad enough that she had gotten into a fight with him and the XO. She was fairly certain Hobbar would deal with him later.
The line of sight into the compound was hard to make out but it was doable. The weather was not in her favor and that too was slightly edging on the already upset Sergeant. Connor still yammering in her ear was enough she finally said something. "Madden just shut up before I shoot you. When I want your opinion I will ask for it" she chided. She continued to watch what was going on below.
