S.S.S. Jacques René Hébert
The accommodations aboard the Hebert were in fact more pleasant then he had expected them to be. He had expected to be placed inside a small room with only one very small cot to sleep in. In fact he would have been satisfied with just a large enough berth for more standing room and a cot. Unfortunately or fortunately as one would put it, he had gotten quarters for a Special Security Naval Officer. It was actually quite big and he was still taking time to get used to it. A knock sounded on the door. “Enter!” he shouted and the door opened and in walked Captain Esther Holt. When she entered she immediately came to attention “Captain Holt reporting.” She said in a loud voice and she then stood at east. She had short curvy black hair. Her face was a smooth creamy white, her nose was small and her cheeks were plump. Her blue eyes almost looked heavenly. She stood at an impressive six feet four inches tall. Her legs were muscular as were her arms but they were not so much that they bulged out. It looked normal on her you could barely notice it. If not for her wearing the black uniform of Special Security personnel might take her for a model. She was in fact what one might call beautiful. She did not look like a tom boy at all. She was beautiful. Her skin suit was very telling of her hips and……..other features of her body.
“Oh come now, we don’t need all that military drill in here when your with me. Sit.” Mr. Black said as he motioned for her to sit over on the couch. Black was sitting behind a desk which had two comfortable chairs. Over to the side of him was a small coffee table and a couch. She slowly walked over to the couch and sat down. Black meanwhile walked over to a small table which had a coffee pot, he began to pour himself some coffee. “Would you like some coffee?” he asked her. “No thank you Representative Black.” He then walked to the couch and took a sip of the coffee before sitting down and placing it on the coffee table with its saucer. “ Ok let’s get down to business now shall we? I’ve been reading your personal file and I’m quite impressed. It says here you were born on Hod and went to sign up for Special Security service at the age of seventeen. Deployed in the outer colonies for a decade you slowly worked your way up to the command of a platoon before attending Special Security Officer Training four years later. You recently saw action with the military on Sisyphus. You’ve also been in command of company one hundred and thirty nine. I also see that you managed to um eliminate twenty seven traitors to the star nation while on deployment on Sisyphus.” He knew what the statement actually meant.
She slowly smiled at him and nodded very slowly. “Now you have been sent on this deployment and have read the statement regarding our official cover story. You have to understand that the corporation is in need of secrecy.” He told her. She then spoke up. “Representative Black…..I know all about the old man and his ways. Everything from this moment on will be between you, me and whatever god you might happen to believe in.” He frowned at that. What was this woman getting at? “I think you’ll also see in my record that along with every member of Special Security, I’m an atheist. But please by all means do proceed to tell me of why my company was called in for their experience.” She then smiled at him again.
He took a deep breath and slowly began to tell her the truth. “The planet VL-Six TwoFour was colonized due to a large energy surge at specific coordinates. Our initial probe thought it was of volcanic activity or some large storm in the area. But we kept reading high energy spikes where no storm was nor any volcanic activity. It was also not an earthquake , or at least that is what we think from our initial scan. We believe that what was causing this initial surge was some sort of living habitat. We cannot tell if this is one structure or multiple structures. The probe was only able to get so much reading from thermal energy scans and was not able to find anything else on the planet nor the system for that matter. New Saigon was in fact set up for the colonists to accidentally stumble upon this energy surge and investigate it. Then the energy department could send in specialists to get a better understanding of what is drawing power. Officially we know this much. Unofficially………we believe it to be an alien artifact.”
Holt’s eyes widened. “Why would you say this? From what you said it could be anything.” She told him. “Yes and that is true but we have records of the energy spike going off line for days and then coming back on for a day or two at most before going off again. Someone or something is causing this energy spike. The colony of New Saigon again was supposed to find out for us. I also have this.” He then took out from his pocket a small data chip. “You’ll be working with Major Gerry Blake. He is in charge of local security concerns and has full authority on what was found if the colony was able to find it. We did not want the government to get involved in any way and the colonists were kept in the dark. Except for Blake and his people no one knows the true purpose. We do not know the reason at all why the colony has stopped transmitting. Perhaps the colonists rebelled, or were all killed by some sort of disease. It is possible that the communication uplink is down. We don’t know what has happened at the colony and we do not know why.” He then let the Captain take in what was just said.
She then smiled again. “Ok we don’t seem to know that much background detail. Regardless that seems to be the case with many missions, but what are our orders?” she then inhaled and leaned towards him. “I suspect the old man wants to tie up loose ends.” She said. The term Old Man was a reference to the boss of Special Security and the head of the Weapons and Research Department, Victor Masson. “Yes, Masson does not want any loose ends. We are to keep our cover story even when we evacuate the colonists from the colony…..assuming they need to be rescued. If the colony can be saved both you and the SDC company will stay at the site until the tower is repaired or some other issue is taken care of. Like I said we do not know what the situation is on the ground. On this data chip are the orders for what is the be done with the colonists.” He then handed her the data chip and she took it. “What are we going to do with the SDC personel if they should happen to find out the truth….” She asked. “We are going to use the cover story and if we do end up going to the energy surge, why it’s just as much as a surprise to us as it is to them. Act surprised and they should buy it.” He then leaned in close to her and said. “The SDC if need be can be eliminated. The S.S.S. Jacques René Hébert has similar orders about the Dauntless Fury." He then leaned back and smiled at her. She smiled back at him and stood up and stood at ease. He stood up as well and watched her as she turned around , she began to walk out of the room. She then stopped, turned her head and winked at Black. Smiling as she walked out of the room, the door closed behind her.
