Bridge of Dauntless Fury
On the large screen in front of her, she could see the wormhole that the starship was about to pass through. Sokolov sighed slowly. Of course the wormhole was not visible to the naked eye. But the computers aboard the Dauntless Fury were able to read the high radiation, high pull of gravity, and the decrease in density. The wormhole was able to have over five hundred million metric tons pass through it. If an attacker were to come through this wormhole they would only be able to have five military starships pass through, and vice versa. Each wormhole had a limit as to how much tonnage could pass through it, so starships both military and civilian had to rely on the station’s traffic control of that star system. No starship entered, or exited a worm hole without clearance from traffic control. A starship entering it had to tell the control station where they were intending to go and what was on board. This was for both military and civilian. Once inside of a star system, a starship would then be assigned a lane for either outbound or inbound traffic, this was of course cleared for military starships. If a emergency were to occur certain lanes would be cleared for military starships to get to an area faster. The only thing about these rules was that the Special Security branch was not granted this clearance. As they belonged to a private company, held exclusively by stock holders and were therefore part of the civilian population. Only official UCHD starships were allowed clearance.
“Captain, Hancock Control has just cleared us to make transit to Alpha Zero Zero One.” Astrogator Kelly Marxson said from where she was sitting. The bridge was multi layered. There were three areas of entrance or exit depending on what one considered an exit. The far left of the bridge was a hatch to an elevator which took personnel through out the multi levels of the starship. The back of the bridge was another entrance and it to went to an elevator. The door on the right also went to an elevator. So depending on what one considered an entrance was anyone’s guess. The captain would sit in towards the back of the bridge where on either side of them were small stairs that led to the second level. Around the second level were rails so no one would fall over. Along the rails though were various seats for bridge personel with green holographic computers. There were no windows of any sort on the starship at all due to the fear of a small crack exposing people to space. The bridge personel below the rails also had their own set of computers. Sokolov’s own seat had a small interface on the left arm of her chair so she could make calls to certain personel throughout the starship. The Combat Information Center was located almost in the center of the starship which would update the bridge of events around the Dauntless Fury. “Inform Hancock Control we are making transit and send my thanks to them. Helm come to Four-Seven-Zero. Warp Master please bring the warp engine online. ” Alexia said in a cool clear voice.
The main screen then showed the wormhole and the Dauntless Fury moving closer together. The clock then came on showing they had five minutes to transit. “Attention all personel, attention. Please proceed to your transit positions.” The automated voice came to life. Alexia continued to watch the clock. Everyone on board the bridge was wearing a skin suit and had their helmets on. Many of the ancient science fiction shows had people on a bridge with no protection what so ever. This was not the case in reality though. The skin suits the navy wore were a dark blue and on the upper right breast plate of them were the person’s rank and their name. On the right shoulder was the logo for the Dauntless Fury and on the left shoulder was the logo for the United Colonial Navy. The back of the skin suit had smaller breathing tanks, small enough that people did not have to lean over their consoles as they worked. The skin suits were worn all the time while aboard a starship for naval personnel except for official dress uniforms for important guests. The SDC and Army were also required to wear skin suits while on board any starship when they were not on mission. The SDC skin suit was a dark red and had the same patch marks as naval suits. Except instead of the name of the starship it had their division and corps. Any time a transition was made all personel had specific positions to be in. SDC personnel were confined to their berths and actually laid down on their beds. These beds automatically placed a glass cover over the bed. The glass was large enough to lay down in. It slowly came down and locked onto the bed with the person inside. If anything were to occur the glass would stay on as the computer sensed a danger inside or outside of the berth. If there was an accident to occur within the berth, the bed under neath the mattress had emergency supplies and a button to get the seal off.
Alexia watched as the timer came to zero. “Three……..two……one…..mark!” The troopship Dauntless Fury vanished and ceased to exist. Sokolov had never herself gotten used to making transit, and she felt cold, almost frozen as they did. Her stomach wanted to come apart and it was over in thirty seconds. Anyone who said they felt fine after making transit was either lying or…….lying. There was someone on the bridge who always threw up it was inevitable. The senors on the Dauntless Fury suddenly came back to life as the old icons of the Hancock system went away and a new read out was being updated. It only took thirty seconds to get a read of their immediate surroundings. “Jackson, I would like recon drones to be sent out as fast as possible and get a better reading on Alpha Zero Zero One.” She said to Alina Jackson the Operations Officer. It would be another thirty seconds before the Jacques Hébert made transit.
