Dauntless Fury, Franklin Station, Stataca Orbit, Hancock System
1302 Hours
December 9, 3358
Franklin Station was one of the three space stations orbiting the planet. At four miles long it was the largest of the three. The other two stations Washington and Adams were two miles long. The station Washington was primarily for trade into and out of the star system, although it was still run by the military. Washington station could hold at one time or another thousand people. It had a hanger bay that held three hundred Starfurys’, and the hanger was never full due to Starfury’s either escorting cargo or inspecting in coming ships that could not be read clearly by station scanners. It also had on station three infantry companies of the SDC. The station had fifteen plasma turrets and four rail guns for defense. Adams on the other hand was a repair and refit station for the ships of the Second Fleet. The station was always busy, as ships would need the latest retrofits of the latest technology. Sometimes ships were gutted if they were too badly damaged or far too old. The station always had a wing of two hundred Starfuy’s in its hanger and boasted three companies of SDC personnel and could hold up to two thousand people. It had four rail guns and twenty plasma turrets for defense. Franklin Station was responsible for any incoming or out going starship in the system. Starships were stationed here waiting for orders, or preparing to disembark. The station had ten rail guns and forty plasma turrets. It also had a wing of six hundred Starfury’s . It had a regiment of SDC personnel and was able to hold fifty thousand people at any given time.
The shuttle began docking maneuvers with the Dauntless Fury. The shuttle fired small jets, slowing the velocity. As it came closer the bay door opened up and the magnetic arm came into contact with the shuttle. The passengers on board felt a slight disturbance from this but nothing else. Slowly the arm began to retract and the shuttle was hoisted into the bay. The large door closed from the vaccume of space. The next door then opened up and closed until the shuttle was through. The final door opened up and closed. The arm then very gently set down the shuttle onto the ground. The door opened up and Captain Alexia stepped off. Outside of the shuttle were two rows of battle armored troopers. The Quartermaster blew the boatswains pipe as Alexia stepped off. Walking past the armored troopers she saw her XO, Lieutenant Commander Marcus McCowen. She stopped walking and gave a salute. “Permission to come aboard Lieutenant Commander?”. Lieutenant Commander Marcus McCowen saluted in return and said “Permission to come aboard Captain.” She had a smirk on her face. “I trust the Little Fury was in good hands….as I would hate to receive any reports otherwise." McCowen nodded his head. “Yes Captain it’s been in good hands as usual, the staff have not returned yet to the Dauntless Fury…..and with its skeleton crew on board who could blame them.” He said. They began to walk forward and started to walk through the doors that led to the interior of the starship. “And I hope they are having a good time. I’ve yet to receive new orders from Admiral Carson but I wouldn’t worry about that for some time. I know the Dauntless Fury is still under going its retrofit of the new armor. Has the station given you notice of when its to be completed?” she asked.
As they walked the halls were for the most part vacant. There were a few sailors here and there going from this way and that. They were walking to her office and unlike most naval officers she preferred to use the stairs. Personally McCowen would of preferred to take the elevator. “It’ll be at least two more days until the armor has been fully refit. We are almost done replacing or repairing our Starfury wing. We’re also upgrading our computer software. The Plasma turrets and rail guns are also being serviced, as is the engine. It’ll be two weeks until all those are finished with small repairs that the station can handle.” Sokolov sighed. “And the crew won’t of returned until the end of the month. Well at least we’ll be ready to go whenever we have our next mission. The ship’s been docked since September, you’d think she'd of been ready by now.” They came upon her office. Standing outside her door were two fully armed SDC troops in their battle armor. They saluted as Sokolov returned the salute and opened the hatch to her office. “Any word on the rest of the fleet at all? I haven’t gotten anything” she said and walked through the hatch, McCowen followed.
The office was surprisingly large. The walls were a dark grey and the carpet was the usual dark blue. Over on the left of the office was a dark red couch that could gold three people at least. There was also a small coffee table in front of it. To the right of the room was another door, this was Sokolov’s private cabin. Along that wall was a book case, he still didn’t understand why anyone would want to read an old fashioned book. The books were mostly from her days at the Academy. The lighting in the room was good and one could see everything. On far back wall of her office she had two enormous paintings. The paintings were of the Dauntless Fury and another of the Earth. In the back corner there was a small fridge that was always stocked with food. There were two chairs in front of her desk. On the desk was the computer and no papers of any kind.
Walking to her desk she sat down. “No Captain, Admiral Carson hasn’t ordered our ship or out squadron to participate in anything. The only thing that has occurred in your absence was a small fleet exercise that was pretty routine. The Little Fury couldn’t participate due to the refits.” He said and sat in one of the chairs. “I hope you had a good time on your trip?” he asked her. “Yes, it was good to see Alla again, and as much as I love her it was also draining due to her um…favorite activity in the world which exhausted me.” She said and smiled. Both of them knew what she was referring to but neither of them acknowledged it. “Hell she was really surprised when I suddenly showed up and practically tackled me. i did have a great time though, we went ice skating which I hadn't done in years. McCowen have you had any shore leave yet?” she said. Marcus shook his head. “No Captain, I haven’t had any sort of leave.” He said. “Mmmmhmm.” She then began to type up something on her computer. “Oh it says you’ve been granted two weeks of leave. Why haven’t you taken it?” she said. “Well Captain I don’t really want to take leave. I’d love to go back to Earth and see it but it’d take a year to go back to Earth.” He said.
“It'd take too long to get back to Earth. McCowen I want you as of right now to take a leave of absence for the next two weeks this is effective immediately. And I know your not really going to have that much fun but please take some time off. Go to a concert, go play a sport. Do something, anything you crazy workaholic.” She then leaned forward and said in a low voice. “That’s an order.” McCowen then inhaled and exhaled loudly before saying “Alright Captain Sokolov if you really want me to take leave I’ll do so. Are you sure you really want me to go?” he said. “Marcus…..I would worry about you if you stayed one more second on this starship. Now go, get out of my office before I get really angry.” She said and smiled. Marcus walked out of the room and the door slid closed behind him.
