Name: Kyle Matthews
Rank: Private First Class
Assignment:Sniper/Spotter
Section: Sniper Team 1
Age: 19
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 155 lbs
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Years of Service: None, just graduated training
Injuries Received in the line of Duty: None
Character's Kit:
Armor: A23 Recon Armor
Sniper Gear: M50AS Sniper Weapon System, M1 Personal Defense Weapon
Spotter Gear: M68C9 Assault Rifle, M1 Personal Defense Weapon
Frame:Fairly average build, nothing that really sets him apart. He is muscular, but it's all toned muscle rather than the bulk that many soldiers have and you wouldn't even notice it if you didn't look closely for it. He prefers to keep his hair short, and his face clean shaven.
Personality: Kyle generally has a likable personality. When he's not on the job, he's very sociable and tries to make friends with the rest of the people in his unit. He's also very protective of his friends, willing to do whatever he can to help them out, particularly his partner.
Kyle is very observant and intelligent, a pair of traits which make him good at his job. He notices small things about other people's behavior, and so he tends to rely on first impressions when deciding who to associate with. Although he can deal with mostly anyone, he can't stand when people don't keep their word. If you can't make good on a promise, don't make that promise in the first place. The upside to this is that if Kyle ever makes you a promise, you can bet he's going to do everything in his power to accomplish it.
Despite his easygoing nature when off-duty, he takes his job as a sniper very seriously. He trains very hard whenever he's off-duty, as he doesn't want to make any mistakes when on an actual mission. He has an intense loyalty to the UCHD and he's willing to die to protect it from anyone who wants to destroy it.
History: Kyle was born, unlike most of the members of the Special Drop Corps, was born on the homeworld: Earth. His parents weren't exactly wealthy, but they lived a very comfortable lifestyle, and his father taught him the value of honor, courage, and commitment. Seeing all of the commercials about the UCHD, he began to idolize the organization, wanting more than anything to join up.
As he grew up, he found that there was a man in his neighborhood who was a former member of the Special Drop Corps who was willing to train young teens to join the UCHD in some form or another. At the age of 13, Kyle eagerly went to see the former Sergeant, and asked him to train him to join the Corps. He was in for a shock. Day after day of constant grueling exercise after school was what he received for training until he was 16. After that, days of shooting practice and tactics began to be incorporated as well. By the time he had graduated high school, he was sure that he would be able to handle whatever the Corps could throw at him.
Only a few weeks after graduation, Kyle found himself on a shuttle bound for Arcturus, where the Expeditionary Corps' boot camp was held. That boot camp was the longest four months of his life. He was fully prepared, and it was still always a struggle for him to keep going. He was amazed that the people who didn't have the training that he did were able to keep going along with him. Finally, he was able to graduate boot camp, not at the top of his class but he was up there. He was assigned to the Sniper and Reconnaissance School for Sniper training after boot camp was finished.
If Boot Camp was difficult, Sniper School was almost impossible. The instructors accepted only the absolute best from the candidates. Anyone who failed more than once on any assignment was dropped from the course. Kyle learned patience, attention to detail, and focus during this training. The Sniper and Reconnaissance School not only taught future snipers to shoot extremely accurately, it also taught them how to move unseen, to gather information without leaving behind any indication that you were ever present. It was hammered into each of the candidates that snipers worked in pairs: a sniper, and a spotter. In order to be a sniper, you had to be proficient in both jobs. After another intense three months of training, Kyle had earned the title of Recon Sniper, and put in a request for the Special Drop Corps. A month later he was on a ship headed for Zanabar.
The Special Drop Corps training was the most intense thing that Kyle had ever experienced. Even though he passed his boot camp and sniper training with high scores, he was always only a split second away from washing out of this extreme course. He knew that once he had completed this course, nothing would ever be able to break him down again. Finally, after more than a year since graduating from high school, he would be assigned to the most prestigious unit in the entire UCHD: The 32nd Honored Brothers.
About my partner: Marcus Garza has a personality much like Kyle. He's outgoing and always looking to be "part of the team." Despite this, he has an attitude that comes across as being cocky, although it's really just confidence in himself after the training that he's been through. Marcus and Kyle were a part of the same Sniper School class, and they helped each other make it through the Drop Corps training as well. Seeing the two work so well together, UCHD command decided to assign them together as a sniper team to the 32nd Honored Brothers, where they would be able to push each other to constantly improve.
Sample Roleplay:
"Target at three hundred meters. Twenty mile-an-hour wind from the north." Kyle slowly swiveled the barrel of his rifle to line up with where he needed to aim to make the shot. "Up two degrees," whispered Marcus beside him. Kyle checked his sights again and, sure enough, he was a couple of degrees off. Slowly making his correction, he thought everything that was riding on this one shot. He had gone through three months of this mentally and physically exhausting school, and it all came down to this.
Kyle gently squeezed the trigger of his rifle, and the silence was shattered by a thundering boom. "Right on target," Marcus whispered again. "There's no way they're gonna spot us here." Kyle suppressed a grin. They weren't out of the woods just yet. The instructors were up on that hill, scanning the area for any sign of them.
Come on, he thought, just say "pass" and let me be finished. Another agonizing three minutes went by before finally his radio crackled to life. With the declaration that he had passed, Kyle jumped up immediately and shouted. He was finally done with this school and he had passed! Marcus slowly stood up next to him, grinning. "We passed, man!" Kyle exclaimed loudly, "That means we're going on to Drop Training!"
"Hell yeah we are!" replied Marcus, putting his hand on Kyle's shoulder. "Look out, enemies of the UCR. We're comin' for you!"
