2300 Hours
Apartment Block 12, New Crown City, Lapovok.
Alla sat down on the couch and let out a large sigh. She turned on the holographicvision and went to one of the premium movie channels. One of her favorite films was on “Invasion of the Romerns” The film was a action sci fi movie about a robotic race that invaded of all places Hod and they enslaved the population. Of course it ended when the good guys blew up the mothership controlling all of the robots. But between the beginning and the end there was romance and fights. One of her favorite scenes of the entire film was when the main hero told his wife that he loved her before the final fight. As she watched it she began to unwind and stretched herself out on the couch. Next to her was a small table with a large glass of bourbon that she always had after a very stressful day. It was one of those days from hell. Her research team hadn’t yet finished mapping the genome of the Jankul virus which was very hard to do.
Her boss Maria Shriver in charge of the viral infection department for health was quite beside herself. As she usually was but today it was just awful. In front of the entire meeting with all of her trusted colleagues her boss embarrassed her and yelled that she was nothing more then a useless Vokula, the reptile like animal on Hadamarad which it’s only activity was being lazy. Alla wanted to speak up but she couldn’t. She needed the job. Wearing a dark blue robe she heard the doorbell chime. She looked at her clock on the right side of the room, it was only 11:00 and of all the times to have a visitor? Getting up she walked across the white tile floor. She was in the living room and behind the couch was a large kitchen. The hall was after the kitchen and had four rooms. Three bedrooms and one large bathroom. The sliding glass door was beside her led to a deck that looked over the Poppy Sea. Her apartment was very large, and Human Corporation’s Health Department paid the tab. She was one of the top researchers in genetics department.
Her dark black hair was currently a mess and she hadn’t really gotten ready for bed. She just finished supper and had only been home for forty five minutes. At least she didn’t have anywhere to be in the morning, she was off for the next week. The door chimed again and as she went to answer it she looked at the small mirror on the wall near the door. Her blue eyes were bloodshot, her small nose was a little red. At least she still looked young thanks to the rejuvenation drugs. She might have been biologically 48 but her appearance was of a 24 year old. She rubbed her eyes and sighed again. Whoever this was better have a good reason for coming to her apartment this late at night. The door chimed again. She opened the door.
“I hope you aren’t mad.” Alexia said in Russian as she came into view. She was in her military dress uniform a very dark blue. Her white cap with black brick. Above the brick was the logo of the UCN, a large star with a starship. It wasn’t any particular starship but just a outline. Her uniform was very sharp. On her left breast was covered with multiple medals. Two purple hearts, One longevity medal, four combat action medals. On her right hip was a sword in it’s scabbard, a black leather belt was across her left shoulder down to her lower right hip. Silver buttons were holding the uniform together. And Alexia had a large bouquet of fire lilies. Fire lilies were grown on Stataca, and only Stataca, they glowed a beautiful orange. She also had on white gloves that were clean. Alla was shocked for a few moments before finally speaking “You…you..you..” was all she could say also in Russian before hugging her wife. She hugged her for what seemed like forever. “I’ll take that as a no.” Alexia said and kissed her wife’s head. Alla looked up at her wife. “Come in, come in.” she said and closed the door.
“Don’t tell me your out of tea.” Alexia said as she headed straight for the fridge and opened it. Alla had the flowers and was grabbing a vase from one of the bedrooms. “No it’s in the cupboard!” she yelled. Alexia quickly found the tea and grabbed the glass. She placed the tea cube in the glass and set it underneath the melter. The melter was a small metallic object built for glasses and could be adjusted, one placed a cube of a drink in the glass and they turned the melter on. Alexia pushed the button and a blue laser hit the cube before it melted in a few seconds and fresh tea was made. “I got some yesterday while I was at the market, you wouldn’t believe the price on meat, it’s gone up four knozses.” Alla said as she entered the kitchen and watched her wife sip on the tea. “What?” Alexia said as she started to drink. “You still haven’t told me why you’re here darling. Not that I don’t mind you as my guest.” Alla nodded towards the holographic vision.
Alexia sat down on the couch with her wife and Alla placed her arm around her. Alexia took off her cap, took off her belt that held the scabbard placing it on the floor neatly beside the table in the middle of the room. “I’m on leave my love. I’ve been on leave for the past week and only have two months off. And I have come here for a request.” She then reached into her jacket and pulled out a envelope. “Here.” Alla grabbed the envelope and saw the seal of the navy on it, she wondered what it was. Opening it there was a letter inside and she then saw it was an invitation to the Christmas Dance on December 23, 3358 in New Oslo at the Riggarn Hotel one of the most expensive hotels. It was the joint Naval and Corps ball. “I couldn’t make up my mind who I should invite.” Alexia said. “Wait a second…you want me to go to the ball?” Alla suddenly got up and started shouting “Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes! I Will!” and jumped up and down. Alexia got up with her and grabbed her shoulders. “And I have talked to your boss she told me it is fine with her. You have gotten two weeks off. “ Alexia also said. “How..how did you?” Alla said. “It’s not until December so don’t expect this for now.” She said. “Oh no…no I didn’t expect it to happen now. Thank you.” She said and locked lips for a few seconds with Alexia. “Your watching this again? Dosen’t it ever get boring?” Alexia said as she sat down.
“Nope, I love this movie. Besides I could say that about the movies you like ‘The Journey into the Wind’? I just never understood it.” Alla said. “It’s because you don’t appreciate a good comedy when you see it. It’s so funny! Who doesn’t like a pale of water hitting someone when they walk into a room? It’s a classic!” Alexia said and laughed. “I still find it dumb. How can you even like those comedies…and of all people you, a starship captain!” she said. “Well…it’s a good way to relieve stress. Trust me I’d rather have your job safe here on a planet instead of being involved in a battle. But then again I love starships.” She said. “I know that. So how is work?” she asked.
“Well I can’t tell you anything about what I actually do but I will say that I was involved in a large military operation to get rid of some terrorists. I can’t say anything really at least not until the people back on Earth hear about it.” She said. “Ohhh dang.” Alla said. “I take it you wanted a story about me rescuing someone in their hour of need? Like in that awful film?” she said. “Yes…I did like it and you know me I am a sucker for a romance film. Why do we feel the need that art needs to have fillers of violence, profanity and just….” Alla started to say but couldn’t think of what else to add. “It’s because people are suckers hon. And there are only a few people like you who like actual emotion and story telling. Me? I like comedies and not that big on action flicks….unless it has no name actors.” Alla nodded and sipped some of her bourbon.
“My boss was in a fit of rage today. I’ve been assigned a special assignment and my people missed the deadline to finish their work. She exploded at the meeting and just…god she was awful. Screaming and everything.” Alla put a hand on her head and slowly her head shook. Alexia got up and walked into the kitchen to grab something. “She knows how hard we work but…I don’t know what’s gotten into her lately it seems everything is upsetting her.” Alla took another sip of her bourbon. “Well maybe she has some sort of personal issue and is taking it out on her work environment. Alla don’t worry about it.” Alexia said as she came back to the couch and took off the jacket she had on. With one hand she had a bowl of something from the freezer and with the other she placed her jacket across the couch. “What, did you come here just to pig out?” Alla said. Alexia sat down next to her wife and grabbed the spoon in her left hand and dug into the chocolate moose tracks. “Well I figure since I’m here why not? The navy food isn’t that good even for a starship captain.” She took a bite. “You always do love to eat.” Alla said and sighed. “Yeah but your more to me than this wonderful ice cream.” Alexia said with ice cream in her mouth . “Mind your manners Alexia!” Alla said smiling as she watched what was being displayed by the holographicvision.
The two of them finished watching the film before heading off to bed. Alexia was main bedroom and started to unbutton her shirt when she felt hands wrap around her stomach. A few kisses on her neck surprised her. “Come to bed with me.” Alla whispered into Alexia’s right ear. Alexia could only respond by turning around and pushing Alla down on the bed. Alla smiled. “You know rough how I am.”

0730 Hours
Slowly waking up and opening her eyes, Alexia saw the closet. For a few seconds she wondered where she was and then realized she was at Alla’s place. Turning over she saw Alla asleep and looked quite exhausted. Well then again it was her idea for Alexia to continue and Alexia had to force Alla to stop. Alla pouted and complained but was finally convinced to stop. It was a good think that Alexia made her tired, or else knowing Alla she’d of left the room all together. Alexia slowly got up out of bed and found her trousers on the floor. Slowly picking them up and putting them on. After putting on her clothes she went into the kitchen and made some tea. Unlike Alla she did not enjoy coffee at all. She loved the smell of it but hated the taste. Going out onto the deck she felt the sea wind hit her face. Outside were two chairs, a table in the center of the deck. Other then that the deck was empty. She could hear the waves as she got up to get a closer look. Down below were large rocks, the apartment complex was on a large cliff. The rocks were a bright white, covered in snow and ice. And Alexia felt the cold seasalt in her nose. She felt happy, life was perfect. Well rather almost perfect. She was finally a captain and had a wonderful mate. She enjoyed her job and loved it! It wasn’t that it was her idea but Alla for the past two years had wanted a child badly. So bad in fact she had become depressed for a year before getting over it. Alexia knew that they couldn’t do anything currently with the laws not allowing them to have children. Neither adoption or having artificial insemination were allowed. Alexia wanted to make Alla very happy but it always felt like there was something missing in their lives.
She finished drinking her tea and went back inside before seeing Alla making quite the large breakfast. “Oh….Alla you didn’t need to make me anything. I could of gotten us food.” Alexia said. “Oh it’s alright Alexia.” She was almost finished making the Blini which were a Russian version of a crepe. Alexia also smelled bacon and sasuage already cooked. Alexia and Alla sat down to eat breakfast. As Alla ate, Alexia talked to her about what she could about her latest deployments. She left out specifics and didn’t name any places or organization. But Alla knew that she was talking about the ARM. Alla nodded after she finished eating her food. “I have the rest of the week off and unlike you I don’t have a month or two off. What would you like to do today?” Alexia bit into a sasuage and smiled. “Well why don’t you take me around the city today? It’d be nice to just get away.” Alexia said. “You sure you really want to see the city and not go another round?” Alla said. “Nope. Is that really all you like to do with me?” Alla only smiled. “Yes Alexia I love it and I chose you because of your charming personality. I could go all week non stop doing that with you. However, we could go down to the beach. Actually this is a good idea, Micheal and John from work are gonna be at some volleyball tournament today. I figure it wouldn’t hurt to join them?” Alla said. “Sure sounds like fun. But isn’t it freezing outside?” she said “Um no today is warm it’s twenty degrees farenheight. All you need are layers of clothes, you’ll do fine.”
Half an hour later, they were down at the beach. Parking the car, Alla and Alexia got out. Both of them had on gloves, and light coats. However they made up for it with layers of clothes. The parking lot was a large circle and not that many cars were there. A small sidewalk led to the beach. There were not that many people on the beach today. As they walked on the freshly fallen snow path, the wind picked up. “Dosen’t this feel good?” Alla said. “Yeah it does, reminds me of Pevek.” Walking past a sign that warned people of the freezing water, they made their way over to the volleyball net. “Alla! Alla!” A man started to scream. A man in a dark blue coat came running, he had dark skin and a gotee. His eyes were brown. He ran towards them and stopped when he got closer “Glad you could come!” he said in English. Alla also switched to English. Whenever Alla and Alexia were alone they spoke Russian but when they were out in public they spoke English. “Glad to be here Michael. This is my wife, Alexia.” Alla said the wind blowing Alla’s black hair back. Alexia smiled. “Ok, great! I couldn’t bring Evelin out today, she…well she and the kids don’t like the beach. John brought his wife and kid, they are somewhere on the beach. Come on let me introduce you both to John.”
John threw the ball up in the air and smacked it towards the other team. Alexia and John were on one side, and Alla and Michael were on the other. The ball came down upon Michael who was in the right place and served it back. The ball then went over towards Alexia who hit it but made it go very high. The ball came back down very fast and Alla missed it. The game would be over when the first team got three points. It was one point for Alexia and John, zero for Alla and Michael. Alexia served the ball and Alla returned it just in time. It almost hit the ground. The ball then came to John who returned it. The ball went straight for Michael who returned it. Alexia hit the ball but Alla just in time again spiked the ball down hard. They got themselves a point. They were currently tied. Alla served it this time and the game continued.
Two hours later, Alla and Michael had won the game. After having some time with them, Michael had to return home to his wife and John went to look for his wife and child. Alla was still laughing when Alexia got into the car. “What’s so funny?” she asked. “Oh it’s just funny how I beat you at Volleyball. How did that even happen?” she said. “Ok ok laugh it up but if you keep it up, I am gonna be cooking. And you know how bad of a cook I am.” Alexia replied. “Ok ok, that’s serious enough and yes your cooking does indeed suck. So where too now?” Alla asked. “Hmmmm, is there anywhere you want to go? Because I’ve only been here twice, once to see how you were doing and now.” Alexia said. “You wanna go and have some supper?” Alla asked. “Sure. Just promise me you won’t go to some Italian restaurant.” Alexia said.
About thirty minutes later they had arrived at a hole in the wall central American restaurant. The place was not glamorous nor was it dirty. They both had sat down in a booth and ordered some tacos. “So Alla tell me . What other things have you done here besides your job? Any good places to go shopping?” Alexia asked. “Yeah there’s a few nice places. Why?” she said. “Well knowing you you haven’t picked out a dress yet. So tonight I want you to pick out your dress. Don’t show it to me at all not even a little. But only show me at the ball. Can you do that? I’d rather you do that then sitting on the couch watching movies with you.” Alexia said as she leaned across the table. Alla chuckled. “All right hon, I’m only doing this because I want to go to the ball with you. But you have to do me a favor as well.” She said. “Here it comes.” Alexia whispered to herself. “All day tomorrow. We don’t go anywhere at all. You can’t leave the house at all.” And smiled. “Hey if I’m gonna do this for you I want something in return as well.” Alla said and ate a chip. Alexia could only slowly shake her head. “Lord how did I end up with you?” Alexia said as their food arrived. “You asked me, remember?” Alla said. “Yes..yes I did and I am glad I asked you. I also remember that you kept teasing me to and when I finally did you were not that shocked.” Alexia said. “Oh I was shocked alright. Trust me after having to lure you in it was well worth it.”
Opening the door to her apartment, Alla went inside very fast. “Geez I didn’t mean run to the store, take your time!” she said as Alla ran inside and than realized Alla was only going to the bathroom. Alexia closed the door and went to the kitchen and started to clean this morning’s dishes. As she cleaned the plates, Alexia suddenly had a flashback of that horrible night when she was seventeen. Not knowing what brought it on, she stopped cleaning dishes and turned off the water. She then slowly sunk against the cabinet and sat on the floor and cried in silence. He had never paid for what he tried to do. Knowing that he was somewhere out there…just living his life. “Oh no. Alexia.” Alla said and got down on the floor with her. Alexia cried a little into Alla’s right shouder. “It’s ok. He’s gone, he’s gone. He can never touch you again.” Alla said and slowly ran her fingers through Alexia’s beautiful red hair. “Shhhh.” After a short while, Alexia stopped and got up. “I don’t know what caused it but it just came over me. You don’t have to buy that dress if you don’t really want to.”
“No I do want to get it and forget about what I said. I’m going right now. Expect to see me in a few hours and I’ll get the best one that I can find.” Alexia heard Alla say as she walked out of the door. Alexia didn’t realize why she suddenly broke down. Luckily this only happened when she was not on duty. Pushing the tears aside, Alexia raided the fridge and grabbed some peanut-butter fudge. Sitting down she turned on the holographic vision. Going through the shows and movies she didn’t find anything and shortly there after turned it off. She ate the entire box of peanut-butter fudge. She fell asleep a short time later.

0930 Hours
Alexia didn’t remember being in here when she fell asleep. She did fall asleep on the couch she remembered that. She was in the bedroom but how did she get here? Looking to her right, Alla was passed out and under the covers. All that was visible was her head on the pillow. Alexia put her hands through her hair and then rubbed her eyes. Letting out a large sigh and slowly got up out of the bed. She made her way to the door “Alex.” Alla said and Alexia stopped and turned around to face Alla. “Alexia ,what do you want to do today? I was selfish yesterday and only thinking of myself. What do you want to do today honey?” Alexia slowly walked towards Alla and sat down on the bed. “ Alla, I love you with all my heart. And a promise is a promise. Even if I hate what I'm gonna do. I want you to be happy.” She said and kissed Alla and both of them had an amazing day.

Alexia slowly got up out of bed and found her trousers on the floor. Slowly picking them up and putting them on. After putting on her clothes she went into the kitchen and made some tea. Unlike Alla she did not enjoy coffee at all. She loved the smell of it but hated the taste. Going out onto the deck she felt the sea wind hit her face. Outside were two chairs, a table in the center of the deck. Other then that the deck was empty. She could hear the waves as she got up to get a closer look. Down below were large rocks, the apartment complex was on a large cliff. The rocks were a bright white, covered in snow and ice. And Alexia felt the cold seasalt in her nose. She felt happy, life was perfect. Well rather almost perfect. She was finally a captain and had a wonderful mate. She enjoyed her job and loved it! It wasn’t that it was her idea but Alla for the past two years had wanted a child badly. So bad in fact she had become depressed for a year before getting over it. Alexia knew that they couldn’t do anything currently with the laws not allowing them to have children. Neither adoption or having artificial insemination were allowed. Alexia wanted to make Alla very happy but it always felt like there was something missing in their lives.
She finished drinking her tea and went back inside before seeing Alla making quite the large breakfast. “Oh….Alla you didn’t need to make me anything. I could of gotten us food.” Alexia said. “Oh it’s alright Alexia.” She was almost finished making the Blini which were a Russian version of a crepe. Alexia also smelled bacon and sasuage already cooked. Alexia and Alla sat down to eat breakfast. As Alla ate, Alexia talked to her about what she could about her latest deployments. She left out specifics and didn’t name any places or organization. But Alla knew that she was talking about the ARM. Alla nodded after she finished eating her food. “I have the rest of the week off and unlike you I don’t have a month or two off. What would you like to do today?” Alexia bit into a sasuage and smiled. “Well why don’t you take me around the city today? It’d be nice to just get away.” Alexia said. “You sure you really want to see the city and not go another round?” Alla said. “Nope. Is that really all you like to do with me?” Alla only smiled. “Yes Alexia I love it and I chose you because of your charming personality. I could go all week non stop doing that with you. However, we could go down to the beach. Actually this is a good idea, Micheal and John from work are gonna be at some volleyball tournament today. I figure it wouldn’t hurt to join them?” Alla said. “Sure sounds like fun. But isn’t it freezing outside?” she said “Um no today is warm it’s twenty degrees farenheight. All you need are layers of clothes, you’ll do fine.”
Half an hour later, they were down at the beach. Parking the car, Alla and Alexia got out. Both of them had on gloves, and light coats. However they made up for it with layers of clothes. The parking lot was a large circle and not that many cars were there. A small sidewalk led to the beach. There were not that many people on the beach today. As they walked on the freshly fallen snow path, the wind picked up. “Dosen’t this feel good?” Alla said. “Yeah it does, reminds me of Pevek.” Walking past a sign that warned people of the freezing water, they made their way over to the volleyball net. “Alla! Alla!” A man started to scream. A man in a dark blue coat came running, he had dark skin and a gotee. His eyes were brown. He ran towards them and stopped when he got closer “Glad you could come!” he said in English. Alla also switched to English. Whenever Alla and Alexia were alone they spoke Russian but when they were out in public they spoke English. “Glad to be here Michael. This is my wife, Alexia.” Alla said the wind blowing Alla’s black hair back. Alexia smiled. “Ok, great! I couldn’t bring Evelin out today, she…well she and the kids don’t like the beach. John brought his wife and kid, they are somewhere on the beach. Come on let me introduce you both to John.”
John threw the ball up in the air and smacked it towards the other team. Alexia and John were on one side, and Alla and Michael were on the other. The ball came down upon Michael who was in the right place and served it back. The ball then went over towards Alexia who hit it but made it go very high. The ball came back down very fast and Alla missed it. The game would be over when the first team got three points. It was one point for Alexia and John, zero for Alla and Michael. Alexia served the ball and Alla returned it just in time. It almost hit the ground. The ball then came to John who returned it. The ball went straight for Michael who returned it. Alexia hit the ball but Alla just in time again spiked the ball down hard. They got themselves a point. They were currently tied. Alla served it this time and the game continued.
Two hours later, Alla and Michael had won the game. After having some time with them, Michael had to return home to his wife and John went to look for his wife and child. Alla was still laughing when Alexia got into the car. “What’s so funny?” she asked. “Oh it’s just funny how I beat you at Volleyball. How did that even happen?” she said. “Ok ok laugh it up but if you keep it up, I am gonna be cooking. And you know how bad of a cook I am.” Alexia replied. “Ok ok, that’s serious enough and yes your cooking does indeed suck. So where too now?” Alla asked. “Hmmmm, is there anywhere you want to go? Because I’ve only been here twice, once to see how you were doing and now.” Alexia said. “You wanna go and have some supper?” Alla asked. “Sure. Just promise me you won’t go to some Italian restaurant.” Alexia said.
About thirty minutes later they had arrived at a hole in the wall central American restaurant. The place was not glamorous nor was it dirty. They both had sat down in a booth and ordered some tacos. “So Alla tell me . What other things have you done here besides your job? Any good places to go shopping?” Alexia asked. “Yeah there’s a few nice places. Why?” she said. “Well knowing you you haven’t picked out a dress yet. So tonight I want you to pick out your dress. Don’t show it to me at all not even a little. But only show me at the ball. Can you do that? I’d rather you do that then sitting on the couch watching movies with you.” Alexia said as she leaned across the table. Alla chuckled. “All right hon, I’m only doing this because I want to go to the ball with you. But you have to do me a favor as well.” She said. “Here it comes.” Alexia whispered to herself. “All day tomorrow. We don’t go anywhere at all. You can’t leave the house at all.” And smiled. “Hey if I’m gonna do this for you I want something in return as well.” Alla said and ate a chip. Alexia could only slowly shake her head. “Lord how did I end up with you?” Alexia said as their food arrived. “You asked me, remember?” Alla said. “Yes..yes I did and I am glad I asked you. I also remember that you kept teasing me to and when I finally did you were not that shocked.” Alexia said. “Oh I was shocked alright. Trust me after having to lure you in it was well worth it.”
Opening the door to her apartment, Alla went inside very fast. “Geez I didn’t mean run to the store, take your time!” she said as Alla ran inside and than realized Alla was only going to the bathroom. Alexia closed the door and went to the kitchen and started to clean this morning’s dishes. As she cleaned the plates, Alexia suddenly had a flashback of that horrible night when she was seventeen. Not knowing what brought it on, she stopped cleaning dishes and turned off the water. She then slowly sunk against the cabinet and sat on the floor and cried in silence. He had never paid for what he tried to do. Knowing that he was somewhere out there…just living his life. “Oh no. Alexia.” Alla said and got down on the floor with her. Alexia cried a little into Alla’s right shouder. “It’s ok. He’s gone, he’s gone. He can never touch you again.” Alla said and slowly ran her fingers through Alexia’s beautiful red hair. “Shhhh.” After a short while, Alexia stopped and got up. “I don’t know what caused it but it just came over me. You don’t have to buy that dress if you don’t really want to.”
“No I do want to get it and forget about what I said. I’m going right now. Expect to see me in a few hours and I’ll get the best one that I can find.” Alexia heard Alla say as she walked out of the door. Alexia didn’t realize why she suddenly broke down. Luckily this only happened when she was not on duty. Pushing the tears aside, Alexia raided the fridge and grabbed some peanut-butter fudge. Sitting down she turned on the holographic vision. Going through the shows and movies she didn’t find anything and shortly there after turned it off. She ate the entire box of peanut-butter fudge. She fell asleep a short time later.

0930 Hours
Alexia didn’t remember being in here when she fell asleep. She did fall asleep on the couch she remembered that. She was in the bedroom but how did she get here? Looking to her right, Alla was passed out and under the covers. All that was visible was her head on the pillow. Alexia put her hands through her hair and then rubbed her eyes. Letting out a large sigh and slowly got up out of the bed. She made her way to the door “Alex.” Alla said and Alexia stopped and turned around to face Alla. “Alexia ,what do you want to do today? I was selfish yesterday and only thinking of myself. What do you want to do today honey?” Alexia slowly walked towards Alla and sat down on the bed. “ Alla, I love you with all my heart. And a promise is a promise. Even if I hate what I'm gonna do. I want you to be happy.” She said and kissed Alla and both of them had an amazing day.
