Admin Post 8/12/3358 Enroute to Gamma Asteroid
The flight of Sparrows was joining formation with the other flight groups of Sparrows. The group designated as Rover 8 joined with Rover 9. Rover 8 would be assaulting Gamma Asteroid while Rover 9 would be assaulting the target designated as Yankee Asteroid, once a mining facility but currently a ammunition facility. The two flights took similar paths, however Gamma was a few klicks south of Yankee. The group was formed in a single file with Starfuey's forming a semi circle to protect them. Around this group of Sparrows were at least ten other groups within eye view if one was to look outside the ports. Well anyone but the troopers inside could see it because they didn't have ports, only the pilots.
Inside the dropship the place was dark and no one could see that much. So almost everyone, save for lieutenant hobbar had on night vision to see each other inside the dropship. The navy rules stated that lights should only be on within 30 seconds before touch down. Stupid rule. The compartment wasn't quiet people were talking away about many things: The war with the ARM, some celebrities. But the hottest topic was what was found on Mars. All that was known to everyone was that someone other than humanity had built the complex . But as to why, how, when, where were questions that were being debated. Some said explore it, others said destroy it.....

Vinigan had done like most else and hurried to the sparrows and entered before finding his seat and making sure he was strapped in. As the lights was turned off and they started flying, he just shrugged to himself and looked into the dark room not being in the mood for talking to anyone right now after all he hadn't been in that much contact with the rest of the people from the platoon or the squad he was sure they were nice people but people seemed to have a low life expectancy despite the high protective armour or they were simply transferred elsewhere but he knew he would have to change that when they got back, although he knew compared to the rest he was still pretty green considering he had never done anything other then being with the drop corp.
He leaned back and looked around the dark room for a bit trying to remind himself of all the names and all the new people who came in and surpassed him in rank and leadership roles, true he was a radio operator and in his opinion a good one at that but it wasn't a good position to try and show leadership from in this mission he would do his best to show he was capable at doing his job after all he would be close to Silva and Hobbar for this mission. Silva being the only person he had always known since he joined the squad that would be a good person to make proud.

"I don't really care about it that much. I mean it's amazing but I won't be intersted till we get more information about it. All that's been said on ISN is that they found a undeground facility that was not constructed by humans. Sorry but until more is said than I won't be interested." Hobbar told Lieutenant Clark. Clark shook her head. "You just don't understand Hobbar, someone built it. Aliens built it. We don't know who they are or why they came to Sol but I'd put credits on that the real reason behind the government not telling us a whole lot is because they found something that is scary. " Hobbar nodded slowly, "I don't think it's as scary as speaker Andrea Patel's tax scandal. " he said referring to the current scandal in politics. Some how the taxes that Patel paid didn't match up with what she should of paid. "Oh don't give me your lecture on that Outer Colonial Party bull. You know why your not popular with the Innies? It's because all you care about is yourselves. " She snorted.
"I wasn't making a speech only pointing out how sad the Solarian Conservatives are. She's supposed to be helping the inner colonies but from her tax record she dosen't give a damn you." he said to her. She sighed. "Look tell me why I should care about what egg heads found on Mars. Tell me." he said. "Because there is someone else out there. That should be enough ." he heard her say. "No, I want proof not some conspiracy theory. And if it does really turn out that there is more than some underground building than I'll want to see more." he said to her. The ride was still going smooth. It worried Hobbar a little that it was going off without a hitch . He looked at the clock on his HUD. It told him they'd touch down within forty five minutes. He felt that the mission would be very hard for some reason. Landing under fire in a docking bay wouldn't be the best scenario to be in. But then again the ARM was probably very busy at the moment with the other two regiments down below. So hopefully this wouldn't be a bad landing. Assuming Aldman didn't crash again.
The cabin was full of multiple conversations, from politics to celebrities. He didn't feel like talking that much so he decided to go over in his head what the platoon would do. First thing would be running to the right, since Clark would be running to the left. Once in front of the dropship he'd try to find some good cover for the platoon and then seek out the targets. He knew that Lima company would be arriving ten minutes before Kilo did. So with that in mind, they'd probably want to take the control tower first. If the control tower had a good angle on the bay then it'd be a shooting gallery for ARM infantry. Hopefully they wouldn't be slaughtered....

Darkness. It was one of the most beautiful things that he knew. For him, this was a time of reflection. Wei was sitting next to the poor sap who had vomit all over her. He didn't know her name, as she was one of the new transferees who arrived last month. His helmet kept the smell of the vomit away from his nostrils, which had most likely taken over the entire cabin. And he noticed that some of the members of 3rd platoon didn't like the bulkiness of the A21S Combat Variant suit. Wussies. It was always rare to have a mission take place in outer space, even more rare to attack some asteroid. Most of the space ops he'd been on were boarding pirate starships. And he'd only been on two space ops, not including this one. And even though the armor allowed for two 9mm machine guns, most people didn't use them or were not authorized because of the close quarters. But some people did. For this mission the battalion wasn't allowed to have them at all, lest they accidentally hit something that might explode. He always loved to have it though.
The dropship made a hard left turn, he checked the time and saw they were still an hour away from the drop point. He knelt back and closed his eyes, trying to get some sleep. Most people were talking about what was found on Mars, politics or sports...or even god forbid celebrities. It was a waste of time to talk about such things, right now everyone needed to be focused on the mission at hand. He knew that lieutenant Hobbar was talking to lieutenant Clark at the moment but knowing the lieutenant, he was making a plan in the back of his head on what to do. That was what he respected about the lieutenant. Always looking out for his people no matter the situation. Unlike his previous lieutenant who was an idiot and never got to know his men, at least Hobbar tried to know his people. But Zhour only had seen a little of him so it wasn't like the lieutenant was his best friend. No, but he had the utmost respect for Hobbar. Staff Sergeant Silva was probably his favorite non commissioned officer. He never met anyone like the little man. Always full of energy on the field of battle and making sure his people were safe was his utmost priority. Plus the staff sergeant was apparently a lively person during down time. Slowly he closed his eyes and driften off for a short nap....hopefully they wouldn't be shot down by the enemy.

As hard as he tried, Berlioz couldn't cut out all the noise from everyone talking, he'd catch fragments of conversations and snippets of words as they peaked out above the common level. He really wished everyone could be quiet, was it really that hard? The best drops were the silent ones, the ones where not a soul in the hold makes a sound, where you can hear the dulled rumble of the engines and the soft creaking of the hull as it flexes and contracts. Having some calm before the drop was appreciated but apparently not by anyone else here, he looked around slowly, everyone apparently talking to each other about whatever really took their fancy. He sighed to himself and shifted in the seat, straining slightly against the harness still trying to get comfortable. In all fairness he was just restless, as much as shutting the rest of the world out was a good thing it did leave him with an unwanted clarity of everything going through his head. He was just thankful no one had ordered him to psych evaluation since he signed up, he was certain that if anyone spent too much time rooting around in his opinions, thoughts and memories they'd take away his rifle and keep him from fighting. The idea of never having to fight again was a sweet thought, a thought that was a very much double edged sword, because if he wasn't fighting then what good was he?
He presumed that the context aside it was actually probably quite a common thought among most working people, the question of What is better, a miserable yet useful existence, or not existing at all. Even the office worker, doing his 9-5, filing reports and writing up spreadsheets would have this question on his mind, sure he was useful but was he happy? Unlikely. It was exactly the same situation he was in, Berlioz was useful without doubt, beyond competent on the battlefield with more combat experience than several of the men on the dropship combined but did it make him happy? No, every life taken was another stab in the gut, regardless of who they were.
Why am I fighting in a war I don't believe in? The thought that kept cropping up the last few months. Screw the fact they were at war, they were still killing, as far as he was concerned both sides were as bad as each other. ARM because they were murdering civilians and the UCHD because they were killing ARM. There were no winners in this conflict and he was sick and tired of the propaganda adverts constantly blaring out crap about the 'Good soldiers doing their duty'. Good soldiers? There was an oxymoron if he ever heard one, they weren't good. They were just paid and praised killers on one side of a broken war.
The soldier next to him shuffled in his seat nudging him, bringing him back to where he was. He silently thanked him for derailing that dangerous train of thought.

He sat listening to the conversation between the two lieutenants and as anyone he had heard especially of the building said to be constructed by something not human but that was just ridicules and then Hobbar started to talk about politics and economy, had that man heard nothing in his education one wasn't supposed to speak openly about politics especially not on duty it would cause problems between people with different opinions. Although he himself couldn't withstand the urge to annoy Hobbar a bit and his colleague "A building not constructed by humans? but by alians? Ha this conversation amuses me we are alone out here lieutenant we have colonized from the center worlds and all the way to far galaxies encountering nothing.." he started out with a light shrug.
To many people it would be obvious he wasn't a part of the drop corp to the people with knowledge of S.S they could recognize the similarities in the armour since it was white and black with some yellow lines a few places but no marks of rank or unit distinction and unlike the rest he was just carrying a pistol. "And Hobbar you should be keeping your opinions on scandals to more closed areas... Discussing politics with 40 other people in the room might annoy some of your soldiers?" he said being in attempt to see how far he could go with Hobbar without Hobbar trying to shoot him in the back after all being liaison it was to improve relations, he smirked to himself.

Post by Christopher Reed on Aug 1, 2013 10:25:54 GMT -5
Well at least he wasn't that late! Oh he was with the company as it ran, but somehow he got a little lost. When the drop bay doors opened for the regiment to board the Sparrows', Reed was right behind Zhour and in front of Galloway. The lights above were incredibly bright, shining down on the A21S Space Armor that the troopers had on. And the sirens were incredibly loud, almost so loud that you couldn't think. But low enough to hear your officer or person next to you. He carried his M68C9 Assault Rifle on his shoulder that was attached to it via strap. During the running and hustling, someone he didn't know who fell behind him and in turn caused him to fall face down. Falling on the ground with all of his gear, he felt embarrassed even though no one or very few people saw it. He got up as fast as he could, grabbing his rifle and putting it on his shoulder. It fell to the ground and he picked it up, this time realizing that some how the strap had broken off. Either pulled or just worn out. "Great." he whispered to himself.
Getting his rifle this time carrying it with his arms, he looked up and saw that he was now lost. There were two dropships in front of him, with the sirens blaring all around it became hard to tell which one he was supposed to be in. He tried to run over to the dropship on the right, he saw someone else running into it. Hopefully it was his own. Slowly he started to jog over towards the ramp. Getting to the ramp he saw lieutenant Franks who gave him a puzzled look. “Ah, sorry wrong Sparrow.” He said. Franks didn’t seem to mind as his staff sergeant called for him. Realizing that it was the other Sparrow, he bolted for the ramp just as he heard the loud squeaks of it starting to close. He ran as fast as he could and barely made it just as the door slammed shut behind him. “Screw you.” He said to Zhour who made a remark about always being late. It wasn’t true, Reed was almost always on time……except for this. Getting into a seat and being strapped into the harness by Staff Sergeant Silva he felt a wave of relief washing over him. He closed his eyes a little as the drop bay doors opened. He hated this part. Yeah he might be a member of the Special Drop Corps but that was only because it was one of the only jobs he could get. The SS wouldn’t take him. His heart raced and he began to breath fast, luckily the compartment was dark and he had his helmet on. No one knew what he looked like underneath the helmet except for him.
The dropship stopped for only a second. “Three…two…one…” he counted in his head before being sent flying to the right and barely being held in by the strap. It was very tough on him, he hated this part of the job. It only lasted for a few seconds before everything evened out and he no longer was being thrown about like a toy. Slowly he opened his eyes and saw everyone was at ease with themselves. Either talking or just being silent. When he heard the conversation about what was discovered on Mars it grabbed his attention. He didn’t mind the two lieutenant’s talking politics at all, to him it wasn’t that big of an issue. “Lieutenant Reinhardt….what do you think about the complex. Does the SS know something that we don’t? I mean there has to be something in there. We can’t be the only people in the Milkey Way. He told the liaison officer. “Your with SSI, you should know something.”
