Upon noticing that Staff Sergeant Silva was ever so present next to them Huxley snapped to a stiff "at ease", his hands locked behind his back, "Excuse me, Sergeant. Didn't see you there." Huxley cringed at that explanation. With an NCO present he began to watch his slur and slowed down his speech pattern.
He turned his attention back to Lamond, "It was en-route to SDC Base Hades. A sergeant saw I was new, wasn't that hard to be honest, and gave me a speech about how you shouldn't make friends until at least your first few battles. He said I was probably going to die so I shouldn't expect my platoon to get to close to me." Alex couldn't tell if his truthfulness was placing this NCO in a bad light and if he should have kept his mouth shut entirely.

Berlioz frowned. It was one thing to adopt a mindset like that overtime, like he had, but it was entirely different to actually recommend against socialising. He didn't agree with this in the slightest. The bond that kept them together as soldiers would drive them to help each other, to support one another in a firefight. It was what made them different to the SS forces, they were in it for the power and the paycheck, there was no interest in one another there.
He brought his attention back to Huxley, "You don't have to take anyone's advice Huxley, certainly not mine. But I'd advise you against holding those words close. We're all in this together, even those of us who push people away when we need them most. When you're pinned under fire and have nowhere to go, the people you were chatting to over the mess table are gonna be the guys that pull you out. You don't want them to be ranks and serial numbers, you'll want them to be your friends."

Lamond's kind words struck a chord with Alex. He seemed very sincere which made the place feel immediately more like home. He had come to SDC Base Hades excited to embark on his career as a soldier in the Drop Corps but that fire was immediately extinguished in one short monologue. Now Lamond had sparked yet another flame in Alex's heart and he was once again excited to begin his journey. Instead of sitting on his bunk reading and studying Battle Drills he could play Spades with the rest of the guys and not be afraid of being turned away. What Lamond had said was very wise. Wiser than what he would have expected to come out of a privates mouth. But maybe that's how battle made you. More wise to the way the world works and how you should treat others.
"Thanks, man. It means a lot." Huxley said and he meant it.

Huxley looked like he was mulling the words over in his head before he replied. Berlioz cracked an ever so rare smile, "If it helps you out then it's no trouble to me." It'd been a very long time since he'd had good reason to smile, the last few months especially. It felt somewhat hypocritical of him to talk about making friends when he'd barely seen anyone since the Assault on Gamma Asteroid and...
He stopped his train of thought there. No need to dwell on what happened. While it felt more comfortable in his own head, the glances and stares from people on a day-to-day basis didn't exactly make him feel like the most welcome person on the Fury. But none of this mattered to Huxley as he didn't know. Berlioz hoped that it'd maybe be a little while before someone told Huxley to stay away from him.

A waitress walked by with a tray lifted in the palm of her hand. Stealing a glance at two bottles of beer Alex nabbed them and handed one to Lamond. Might as well start off on the right foot and do it right if he was going to make friends, "So, as you know from when I was introduced a couple weeks back I'm one of the new medics. I'm replacing..." he tried to grasp the name and then continued, "Manning I think his name was. As a medic how was he? Do I have a lot to live up to?" Of course Alex had no idea what happened to Manning and why he was his "replacement" so what seemed like casual banter between soldiers might have come off rude.

Post by Michael Hobbar on Jul 7, 2014 13:30:38 GMT -5
Hobbar smiled and said “Ah, thank you for the offer I’ll see if I can sit with you later.” He told her. Alexia smiled and then turned away walking in the direction of the table that was currently occupied only by Alla. Michael finally had the chance to go to the buffet! His stomach was becoming painfully hungry, he then looked at his left wrist and looked at his old fashioned mechanical watch. It was silver and had no numbers, and very shiny He’d been talking to her for half an hour! Jesus that woman could talk forever. He then started to walk to the buffet and grabbed a plate. He noticed that most of the seafood hadn’t been touched at all and he began grabbing some shrimp, old Earth lobster, mussels, scallops and just about anything else he could find. He then grabbed himself some hot chocolate that had a mountain of whipped cream. It didn’t go well with the food he was having…..he did not want pop at the moment.
As he looked for a table he saw Staff Sergeant Silva talking or rather practically yelling at someone. Not fighting but very excited about something. Sitting into the seat he heard the last of the conversation “And that’s why you’ll never see Special Secuity defend places!” Hobbar began to eat as everyone at the table burst out laughing. Taking a few bites of the crab he looked over at Lamond and Huxley, with his right hand he waved them over.

Berlioz was about to reply when Lt. Hobbar's waving caught his attention, a clear indication that he wanted them to come over. Berlioz looked back to Huxley, "Have you met our Platoon Leader Lt. Hobbar yet?"

Huxley was caught of guard by the officer calling them over. He didn't think officer's associated or talked with junior enlisted. Never the less he replied to Lamond that he only met him the day he arrived on the parade field and then began walking over to the officer. Huxley snapped to attention but did not salute because he was indoors.

Post by Cordelia Heart on Jul 12, 2014 23:05:00 GMT -5
Cordelia arrived to the Christmas Party and was in complete awe when seeing the bright colored decorated room with cheerful scents like pine trees and cinnamon with a hint of celebratory eggnog. ‘’The decretive committee really out done themselves this year.’‘ she thought. The room is very upbeat especially when a live band started playing Kalinka in the background. (Probably Alexia’s request). Cordelia was looking forward to spending time with Huxley, where ever he may be. Also, hoping to catch Hobbar and Lamond as well. Work had been so hectic these past couple of weeks, she hadn’t had much time to socialize with anyone except for some quick exchanges in the lobby or mess hall. Cordelia felt like this was a well deserved mini vacation she and everyone in this room so desperately needed. She spots Silva sitting down next to Hobber and walks over. Cordelia walks up behind them and gently says’’ enjoying the party?’’

“And BAM!” Silva said in a loud voice as he slammed down his fist. “That bastard didn’t get up after getting shot in the chest. Stupid ARM soldier what the hell was he thinking?” Jorge said and took another bite of the shrimp. The people around him laughed as he continued to eat, he looked over at the lieutenant who just sighed softly and ate some more of his food his plate. He smiled, he always did like the Christmas party. Good food but even better people. Jorge grabbed his cup and drank some more eggnog, as he probably would for the entire night. He never got tired of the stuff.
A voice came behind him, Silva turned around to see Heart “Ah Private Heart. You know I almost expected you to come in with Huxley.” He then smiled and said “I’d go and get some food if I were you who knows how long it will be available and besides this really is the only time when we aren’t shooting or training.” He told her. Looking up he saw Huxley and Lamond together as they walked up. “Well looked what the Cuilien dragged in.” he said referring to the native feline of Stataca , “You should have something to eat, now get on over here before Zhour enlightens us with another one of his stories.”

The amount of people that were gathering on the table where Hobbar had invited them over was growing rapidly. Berlioz's automatic reaction was to try and invent some reason to not join them, to have to be in such close proximity to people that would be able to regularly recognise him. But considering that so many pairs of eyes were now trained on him and Huxley there was little he could do but try to put on a smile and walk over with Huxley to the table and sit.
The beer that he'd been given earlier remained untouched, he'd rather not drink it but if someone were to point it out to him... Berlioz took a short sip before setting it down, internally wincing at the taste.

Huxley looked over to Lamond and noticed he hadn't touched his beer; however, the young medic knew that in order to conversate with the higher ups he would have to drink a little liquid courage. After taking a swig from his bottle....or two...or three he noticed Cordelia standing in the mix of soldiers they were approaching. Cordelia was senior to Alex even though Alex had been on planet longer than her. he didn't mind. She was sweet and kind to him but she had a glimmer behind his eye that he reckoned would come flashing out in combat. A sight he could not wait to see.
Arriving next to the group of senior leaders and ncos Alex felt immediately out of place. Taking another large gulp of beer he chocked and a little came out the side of his mouth. He quickly snatched up a towel from a passing waiter's arm and wiped the spittle away. Embarrassed he smiled and set the beer down, "Guess one IS one to many for this corpsman, eh?" he laughed as he leaned back on his heels and then back to the flats of his dress shoes.

Christopher ate his food as Staff Sergeant Silva was talking on and on about some mission he was on. He was very animated about it, that was sure! He noticed how the corpsman or rather corpswoman (even though it was gender specific, corpsman was still the term used) Heart had come up behind the Staff Sergeant and asked him how the party was. Even though he hadn’t seen much of her she was always a in a cheerful mood. This party was to be honest was alright. He would of preferred being outside where it was not so formal.
He looked to the right and saw both Lamond and Huxley walking towards them after someone at the table had called them over. “Hey Lamond where have you been haven’t seen you in a long time.” Christopher got up out of his chair and walked over. “What’s the story eh?”

Berlioz looked up at Reed like a deer in headlights for a split second. He thought everyone knew? Berlioz decided to interpret the question as regarding their time on Stataca, rather than his 3 months in Medical on the Fury.
He put on a false grin, "Oh not much really. Had a few trips into New Oslo but aside from that I've just been relaxing on base." He could feel better that this was the truth, it came down to whether or not Reed was happy with just that information alone. Before he let Reed potentially have another chance to ask anything again, he turned it around, "What about you? It's not like I've seen that much of you either?"

Cordelia couldn’t stop laughing after Jorge told the most hilarious joke about the one with the dragon and the cricket hit the hookah bar. After chatting with the gang for a while she then decided to excuse herself for a few moments to get something to nosh on. She was glad to have taken Jorge’s advice to head for the food table. Her eyes lit up when she saw the elaborate selection of imported lobsters, honey roasted ham, chicken wontons, and they even had her favorite: chocolate-ginger cookie shot glasses with eggnog inside. Her inner fat girl was going yum! She giggled to herself. She grabbed a few things, and headed back towards the table until someone behind lightly tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and smiled to see it was Alexia. “Merry Christmas Cordelia!’’ Thank you and to you as well, Alexia. Oh where’s Alla? Is she with you tonight? Alexia laughed. Of course, she’s sitting right over there.
At that moment, Alexia pointed to the table right next to the table where Cordelia was sitting, Alla saw us and gracefully waived at us to come over. Also, saw Alex and Lamond walking toward her table. But right away she noticed sometime wasn’t quite right with Alex. He was kinda swaying back and forth, looked a little dazed as well. Probably just had a little bit too much of holiday cheer; she thought. She kept her composure when she looked back at Alexia. Concerned she said ‘’ will you please excuse me for a moment hon, I’m suppose to meet up with Huxley and Lamond.’’ I’ll catch up with you two in a little bit. She smiled and said Sure, please say hi to them for me. I will. Cordelia nodded and went over to Alex. ‘’ Alex, are you feeling ok?’’ she whispered.
