Zhour clearly saw the ARM as the bad guys in this, and Berlioz didn't blame him. It was hard not to when you see the atrocities they caused in the name of bringing down the Human Corporation. But maybe he hadn't seen what the HC was capable of. Zhour rapidly changed subject, moving onto a topic Berlioz had practically no experience in. The subject of what he wanted to do when he left the military. Zhour seemed to have an ideal in his head, working what sounded like a nice secure job with what apparently was a good pay. It had actually been awhile since Berlioz had checked his account, after all these years he hadn't really made any significant transactions for anything larger than maybe a meal at a local establishment on a world he'd be deployed on.
Zhour started talking about the HC's SS powered armour, While I appreciate what he's saying about the powered armour that the HC SS wear, I think if he'd seen what those people did with that armour, he'd be less inclined to wear it himself. He mentally flinched as the images of those white clad monsters ripped their way through civilian settlements under the pretense of 'searching for members of ARM that had taken refuge in the local population'. It made him sick to the core to see that and be ordered to stand by and let it happen.
When Zhour started talking about the Republican Day celebrations, Berlioz literally wished he could just switch himself off so he didn't have to hear about it. He really couldn't care less about what was happening. Nearly every other soldier, every single year went mad over that day, regardless of which shithole they happened to be stationed in. They'd drink and party the night away while he sat up in the Armoury strip cleaning his gun so it didn't jam the next day. However the question about Berlioz's plans after the military drew another long sigh.
"I'm already coming up to the end of my second 4 year term. I had my opportunity to leave nearly 4 years ago and I've got another coming up. But I know I won't take it, I'll sign up again, for another 4 years and let them ship me off wherever they want to send me." He switched off the idling tablet on his chest and slipped it back into its pouch. "My skill is in killing. As much as I hate and revile it, it's the only thing I've ever been good at. What is there out there for a man like me? It's probably better that I stay here, do my best to keep other people alive just like I have been for the last 7 and a half years. If someone else can go home to their family because of me, doesn't that make staying worth all the hell we see?"

Coming back into the berth, Silva looked as if he was going to kill someone. He was on the outside very angry but on the inside he was quite calm. The shock still hadn't worn off as he hoped it would before he came back. If any of the enlisted personnel asked he'd try and shrug it off. And what would he tell them? That his only sister was a lesbian? It wasn't a big deal for most people in society. As a matter of fact the UCR legalized gay and lesbian marriages centuries ago. Of course they were not allowed to adopt or conceive kids due to the Supreme Republican Court ruling that it might some how physiologically mess with a child's head if he had two of the same sex as a parent. The child might become confused as to who was who.
But that aside it was legal for gays. Silva never agreed with it he just couldn't phantom it. Passing Zhour who was at the moment staring at the top bunk above him. And Lamond was talking to him about what he was like on the battlefield. He then went back to the front of the entrance and went over to his small personal locker . Opening it up he got out a small tennis ball. Closing it he then walked near the commode and sat down a few feet away. The door was still closed so it was safe to say no one was in there. He grabbed the ball and threw it at the door, it bounced back onto the floor and then came to him. He caught it and repeated it again. As he did he could hear Lamond. “You know what I want? I want people to respect rules. Rules that have been there for who knows how long. She shouldn’t of done what she freaking did. That idiot is going to hell because of it.”

The sudden interruption of Sgt. Silva entering the berth and walking around most likely spoiled Zhour's chance to reply to him. As the Sergeant retrieved what appeared to be a ball of some sort, Berlioz threw Zhour a look that said, what is going on now? The Sergeant was clearly troubled by something, most likely what he'd be shouting about earlier regarding his sister. The exact reasoning for his outburst not known yet but it was likely that Silva wanted to get something off his chest as he was now bouncing the ball off the wall in front of him and catching it repeatedly.
However his next statement regarding rules and what was possibly a reference to his sister, Berlioz wasn't sure yet, did show that he was extremely agitated about something for sure. He sat up and turned towards the Sergeant, trying to keep his tone as measured as he could in the possibly volatile atmosphere, "Staff Sergeant, something seems to be bothering you, is it something you wanted to discuss?"

Silva continued to throw the ball as he talked. "You want to know what's bothering me? You really want to know what's bothering me? I'll tell you what's been bothering me. Have you ever had any brothers or sisters? I have. I had two sisters. One died a few years back when the Jankul virus came to Hadamarad. She died within two days. You know what's been bothering me? My other sister Isabella has just told me that she's a lesbian. We were all raised in the catholic church. It is a sin to be homosexual or conduct homosexual acts. They won't go to heaven. Instead they'll be going to the bottomless pits of hell. To burn for what they've done. And my sister is going there." He continued to throw the ball not looking at either of them. "She's going there! She knows what will await her in the after life. We were both raised in the same house hold. I know that this...'girlfriend' of hers is just making her go through a stage. I hope this is short lived. When my parents find out, if I know them right, she'll be kicked out of the family and will altogether. I don't want some lesbian in my family, even my own sister. It's immoral, satanic, godless, and she's a heathen. There's nothing I can do to save her soul from going straight to hell. So yeah I'm pissed. "
He continued to throw the ball. " She's not my sister anymore unless she turns away from her...godforsaken sin. The girl knew what it was. It's right there in First Corinthians, that states she won’t get into heaven. I want her to go to heaven. But she has to repent this…sin.” Silva could barely say it. He was so sad and very angry. “As far as I’m concerned I don’t want her in my life. She doesn’t deserve to have a family. I do hope she comes to the light.

Berlioz sat in absolute shock, keeping it off his face was taking more effort from him that he'd expected. I'm sorry, what did I just hear? The thought somehow clear enough to be heard over the din in his head. He knew that those who followed particular religions could be sometimes somewhat devoted to their belief and extremists did exist, those that held their belief above all else and made it their personal mission to drive this belief onto others. Regardless of what the person wanted. He didn't realise that his earlier tirade had been about this. His sister is a lesbian? So what? This was the last thing he expected to hear from Silva.
Once he'd regained his mental composure, he quietly said while he stared at Silva, "I'm sorry Sir, but I'm afraid I can't help you there. Sounds like an extremely personal and family related issue. It's not really my place to comment." Berlioz left it at that, if he said anymore then he ran the risk of seriously upsetting the Sergeant and that could put him in trouble he didn't need.
Of course that wasn't what he'd do in a free country, if he'd had his way, the Sergeant would already be pinned up against the bulkhead with a gun under his chin. It certainly wasn't the correct, or even most effective way of making Silva see reason, but sometimes calm rational actions didn't have the same emotional payoff that unrestrained reactions had. He had to keep himself in check.

Silva continued to throw the ball as he talked. "Don’t worry about it. This is a personal issue and won’t effect the campaign.” He said as he threw the ball. Catching the ball he looked at it before getting up off of the floor and went back to his locker. He put the ball away and closed it. Going under his bed he got out his sea bag and began to unpack a few things . He then went into the commode and changed into his workout clothes. The ball was not enough he had to punch something, or else he would probably explode. The best thing for him to do was to get it out of his system before something happened, preferably now since it was still quite fresh. Going out of the restroom he went back to his sea bag and put his other clothes in them. He was still in deep shock and really couldn’t talk to anyone at the moment.
As he left he said. “Don’t ever mention this to anyone.” He said. Walking out of the berth he passed a few people but didn’t notice them. He was so focused on getting to a punching bag at the gym.
