"That is what we know so far Mr. Chairman." Bobby Hunt said as he finished his report to the board. The room was full of cigar smoke as most of it's members had a disgusting habit of not airing out the room, it was a tactic they used when they wanted answers. And Hunt was feeling sick in this room. The room was very large, a large oak table was in the center of the room, large windows on the far side let natural martian sun into the room, the floor was a white granite. The ticking of the antique grand father clock was the only sound in the room, it was as if the world was going by very slowly.
"Thank you Mr. Hunt." Albert Adams said and placed his cigar in the ash tray, he had multiple papers around him. Adams was the president of the board that ran Human Corporation He was in his 80's but thanks to rejuvenation drugs, he was physically in his 30's. Most people around his age took the drug, but a few liked the natural aging process. "Let's go over this again." Adams said and put his hands on the table looking around the table. There he saw the heads of the corporation all watching him. "In late May one of our mining crews stumbled upon some sort of underground facility, and entry any further into the facility has been forbidden until the local Parliament...and until the UCR actually agree to let us in. That has not stopped us from using thermal imaging to map the structure. From what we've been able to tell, it has at least fourteen levels, and most likely has multiple safeguards against entry. As Mr. Hunt has pointed that out with the death of five of our miners." he said.
Five miners were ordered to try and open the door that was inside the far side of the large cavern that had been discovered only to be killed when they came too close and suddenly were burned alive. "So are there any ideas on when we can actually enter this...treasure trove?" he asked his board members.
The members shuffled in their chairs. "Mr. Chairman, I don't believe we should enter the structure without the government allowing us to do so. The consequences would be disastrous, not only for the corporation but in the cost of lives as well. If five people died without even touching the door then how are we supposed to enter it?" Malvina Vladimirskii said as she looked at Adams. Malvina had cool blue eyes and had bright red hair, she was in her mid 60's but thanks to rejuvenation drugs she looked as if she was in her early 30's. She had on a white outfit that zipped up behind her back, it was a one piece suit. "Oh come on Valdimirskii surely the chairwoman of natural resources and minerals doesn't have a problem with bribery...after all I do recall that your department gave some generous gifts to the Magnum monarchy after it was discovered that there was a new source of ore." Maria Homen said across the table.
"We all remember how you covered it up and it was just a mistake...and the UCR backed off. And so what if we lost a few workers? That's the purpose of the corporation to make a profit..if I have to have death on my hands then so be it. We all know people die....if they die in the work place then no matter. I think it's better if we do this ourselves, the government takes forever to do anything. You have the man power Valdimirskii. Don't be afraid if you loose five miners, less people to pay." she said. Maria was a very beautiful blonde and her Brazilian accent made it just even more sexy. She was very slender, and was dressed in reveling clothes. In her early 30's she was quite the business woman and didn't get the position because of how well she did it, but for her other services.
She was the head of the shipping and transportation of goods across worlds and space lanes. "No no no. You shouldn't have to wait and do it yourself. Don't any of you remember, we control the martian government. I say we force the issue during our next 'meeting' and demand that the local government allow us access, that way they can deal with the UCR and it won't be our problem." Ajeet Punjab said. His Indian accent sliced the room like butter, he was a round man, but not too round. His hair was very short and his skin was quite dark. Punjab was in charge of the entertainment sector of the company and ran it with an iron fist. "Let the martians deal with it..they hate us, but they hate the Republic even more. We all remember the protest last month." he said referring to a protest against a SDC trooper who murdered a local shop keeper, which sparked protests against the UCR.
"Punjab, letting those crazies deal with it is only part of the problem. I think it's better if we also try to open it ourselves. I don't want to destroy it, think of what is locked away in those chambers! The advances in other parts of the military could be amazing. I motion that we wait for the government and then do this properly. Trying to do this without their permission wouldn't help us now at all. Besides my people will make sure that no one vandalizes it. You have my word. Wait for the government's response." Victor Cachet, head of the weapons division said in return. He was one hindered years old, but thanks to the rejuvenation drugs he looked as if he were in his mid 50's. He was dressed in a black outfit and had on black gloves and had a harsh German accent. His white hair was gelled back and he smelled of expensive cologne.
"For once I actually agree with you Victor. Alright we will wait for the official government response. But once we are granted access, I want us to study everything in there with up most respect. Do not I repeat do not damage anything. And if they send us experts the better it is for us, we won't have to pay them. Victor how is project Ajax coming along?" he asked him. "It's coming together, one of my people is just beginning the process." he said. "Excellent, hopefully the SDC will become more loyal to us as the time goes on. Once ARM is dealt with it will be much easier. Ok meeting adjourned." he said.
