The hangar bays were a busy place to be as several people was leaving the ship for missions or leave and others came to the ship for the first time or maybe returning after some time away. No matter what the Hangar was always busy and during her short time being deployed, Myra had only set foot there for missions and when she had first arrived. Today though she had business there. A new doctor was coming in to join the company and it would definitely make Myra’s job a bit easier when there were two people to handle those ill-fated enough to get hurt in the line of duty.
After having spent some days on the planet in full combat gear, Myra felt unusually light in her service uniform but not that she was complaining. She was heading through the corridors while looking over the personnel file she had received with the new medic. He certainly was experienced and judging from his file photo not exactly bad looking either. Myra entered the hangar and asked one of the staff members there for directions to the new arrivals and was quickly pointed to the right shuttle. A bunch of young men was exiting the shuttle eager to fight and there was no doubt in Myra’s mind that they were here as frontline infantry. Now she just had to wait to see if the was a medic hiding somewhere in the group that left the shuttle too.

Ted looked down at his uniform and brushed some dust off of it. The ride to the UCS Dauntless Fury took hours and the cramped space just made him grumpy. He had tried to sleep; however, a lot of the younger soldiers would not shut up the whole trip. Such eager men so close to death and they don't even know it. Yet Ted reminisced about his first battle. Just out of OSUT he was very excited to prove himself. But as the three men vaporized in front of him his mindset changed. Combat will change a person, sober them up immediately.
As the ship neared the Dauntless Ted strained in his straps and looked out of one of the many windows lining the transport ship. Space swallowed everything, just below them a white planet. The Dauntless Fury was magnificent, absolutely huge. Ted had never been on a ship as big even in his nine years but than again the 32nd wasn't just any unit. The ship passed through the force field that separated the Hangar from space and with a light jolt it touched down. Belts and straps snapped away from the young men and women who started to file off the platform towards their respected platoons that were waiting for them.
Slowly he stood from his seat and stretched the aching muscles in his back and thighs as he reached up for his duffle bag. On the faded black duffle bag a faded Unit crest displayed itself on the fabric and underneath is showed SSGT Manning, Ted. That was a different time. Two years prior he had gotten into a argument with a higher up, a scuffle broke out. Ted walked away with a broken wrist and the officer walked away with a broken face. The moral of the story was: Stay out of trouble and keep your rank. Now a Lance Corporal, Ted Manning did not know what to expect as his boots carried him down the ramp and onto the hangar bay floor.
Immediately he spotted the person he was looking for. He smiled slightly and then hid it as he thought of how attractive the woman was. But first meetings were not the time to flirt. It was all business until they were both comfortable. He dropped his bag when he made it across from her and held out his hand, "Lance Corporal Ted Manning. Pleasure to meet you."

The first large flock of people exiting the shuttle was young guys who came straight from boot camp and already felt like they were immortal. It was always the same. Most people who had managed to get through basic training felt that it was all the training they needed and then thought that they could take on an entire enemy regiment on their own. They couldn’t. No one could and most people never got a chance to learn that. Myra let out a brief sigh as the young men passed her and then she turned her attention back to the shuttle. A few more people left it but either wore a uniform that indicated another branch of service or their rank didn’t match the new medics.
Finally though a man looking a lot like the picture in the file Myra was holding, with a service uniform that had the right badge on it. Myra stepped forward and as the man extended his hand to greet her, she politely shook it. “I’m Myra Lee” She said casually and didn’t really bother mentioning her rank as that was already on full display on her uniform. Myra also didn’t really see herself as a soldier but as a medic and while she knew that rank mattered once they hit the fan, she didn’t really see the point while floating in space. “How was the flight in?” She asked and took a step aside to let her new partner walk past her as the hangar wasn’t the best place to have a conversation. “If you want, I can show you to your quarters?” She suggested figuring that he probably wanted a bit of rest after the long trip there.

Myra Lee. That was a very pretty name but it made sense because she was a very pretty girl. That being said, Ted had a very difficult time believing she was able to hold her own, she was just too dainty.....she hasn't even proved her own in battle yet. This was all the be seen.
"Your pilots know their stuff. It was pretty smooth minus the exit and entry into atmospheres but that's to be expected on any flight" he answered as he started to walk beside her out of two metal, sliding doors and into a brightly lot hallway, "actually do we have time for a tour?" he asked back, not quite wanting to stop talking to her. Plus he did need to know about the ship he would be stationed on.

Myra nodded when the newest addition to the medical team mentioned that the pilots knew what they were doing. She knew that it took quite a while to become a pilot and certainly a lot of skill as well. She didn’t really mind flying but of course she was a bit more anxious when flying around here since it seemed that any military craft flying around these parts were painted with big targets for the enemies to hit. But it did make sense that the enemy would go for the shuttles first since it was probably a lot better than ending up fighting the soldiers once they hit the ground.
As the started walking, Myra was heading towards the bunk area to show the new medic where he could drop his stuff and where he would sleep. Basically his home for the duration of this mission. But then he asked about a tour. Myra gave it a moment’s thought but since she didn’t have anything pressing to do, she figured that it would be a good idea. She changed direction and started guiding him through the most common places to spend time on the ship like the mess hall, the gym, the on board cinema and of course sick bay. As they reached sick bay she stopped in front of the door. She didn’t want to go in while not working. “So this is where the people we treat during missions are taken for further treatment and of course recuperation…” She said and looked up at the man who certainly was a tall man. “Anywhere else you would like to see?”

He looked into the med bay and saw a few soldiers resting on the tables. Same as any other ships med bay with a few extras here and there. He didn't fancy being in the medical bay anyways. He loved being out in the field. That's where all the real life and death shit happened, the reason he signed up. In the medic bay you either have the occasional emergency surgery but it usually was just an illness or recuperation that kept people in that room. He wanted to go back to the barracks hall, see his room, get situated, the likes. As he moved down the hall, Lee right by his side, he got the warm sensation that she would be a great partner to have, despite her inexperience on the battlefield. Finally after two elevator trips and a mile of walking later, they made it to the barracks hall.
Ted turned to the door behind him. It had his name and ranked engraved on the door and his social security was his pass code to get in...that would have to change. As he entered the number and the door to his room opened he stepped over the threshold for a moment and took a look around. The bed was nice, nicer than most star ships he had been on, they had a tv, computer, holo. Everything to keep him busy on the downtime.
With a smile he took the dufflebag and tossed it over and onto the bed. Turning he walked back out into the hallway and the door closed behind him, "It's a nice room, better than most places." he leaned against the wall and crossed his arms, "So tell me a little about this unit and then i'd like you to show me one last place."

The rest of the tour went on with some casual small talk as most places that could be found on the ship was pretty common and could on any ship. This made it possible to just walk by the place and mention that it was there. However after the sickbay, it was a long trip to the personnel quarters. In one side of the ship there were the rooms for male personnel and in the other side the rooms for female personnel. It wasn’t because men weren’t allowed in the women’s part of the ship or vice versa, but sleeping quarters were still divided.
As they reached the door to Ted’s room, Myra waited outside as he entered his code and walked inside to drop off his bags. It didn’t take long before he was back in the hallways and Myra nodded as he appreciated the crew quarters. She liked her room as well and had definitely feared worse when she was stationed somewhere that wasn’t Earth. “Sure, what would you like to know about the unit?” Myra asked curiously but also added: “I’m new here too so I doubt I can answer all questions you might have…” Myra looked up at the man as he asked her to show him one other place as she tried to remember if she had forgotten somewhere important. “Ok, What place is that?”

"Well I was looking at your files as I was flying in. You're an amazingly talented doctor and an expert with a knife during surgery. However you don't have any field experience. No combat time and certainly don't know what it's like to have someone shooting at you or people dying around you."
Ted leaned off the wall and started walking down the hall. He saw the sign earlier as they walked passed and wanted to go to the room.
"I want to take you to the simulation room and run a hyper realistic scenario with you. how you ever been in a simulation? Now a days they make it extremely realistic. I can transport us to any planet, any battlefield, and any type of atmosphere you can think of. I can run any type od scenario imaginable."
He turned the corner and entered the room he was looking for. Along the left side of the wall stood several lockers which held weapons made for the simulator and combat uniforms. To his front was a control panel which sat in front of a large glass window. In the room behind the glass window was a large black tiled room, the simulator room.
"These mock weapons do not fire any round. However when the simulator starts, that black room in their will turn into whatever place you think you. You can scale buildings, climb hills, swim in rivers and it will all feel, taste, and smell real. When you fire your weapon the recoil will feel real, you will see the muzzle flash and hear the weapon fire."
He walked over to the table and inserted a few key things and then stepped over to the locker and grabbed his uniform and a mock rifle.
"I'll change in the simulator room, you can change in here. Join me when you're ready." and with a smile he was gone.

When Ted started talking, Myra had no idea that he was going to suggest that they walked to the simulator room for a little practice. However it made sense as his compliments to her skills very probably only a way to avoid just plain telling her that she wasn’t really a soldier. So she didn’t comment on those words. She knew that she was a great doctor and since that was what she wanted to be, and because she had never seen herself as a real soldier anyway, she didn’t take offence by the fact that Ted wanted to practice with her as the first thing when he arrived.
Myra nodded as he asked if she had ever been in the simulator. “Once or twice…” She said quietly and thought back to boot camp where that seemed like a standard way to test recruits. As they turned the corner, Myra listened to Ted’s words and while she had heard them before from other instructors, it never hurt to have it repeated. She watched as he walked over to grab a weapon and a uniform and for a moment wondered if he was just going to change there. Many soldiers seemed far from shy and the personnel file didn’t mention such things. But then he said that he was going to another room and Myra nodded and smiled as he left. Once the door was closed, Myra grabbed a uniform and quickly changed into it and then found a weapon that resembled the one she used during missions. Or rather, the weapon she was supposed to use. Then she walked into the other room but before stepping in completely she closed her eyes and for the sake of courtesy asked: “Are you all dressed up?” She wouldn’t want to walk in on him half naked on the first day.
